Description

OSM Importer is a tool for importing OpenStreetMap 3D map data into Autodesk® Revit®. Elevation data uses values from Geographical Survey Institute maps and ASTER datasets. Please check this page for details.

Geographic features

OpenStreetMap data consists of coordinates (Nodes), model elements (Ways), and relationships between models (Relations); a Node represents a specific point on the ground by latitude and longitude, and a Way represents a line segment consisting of multiple Nodes. A closed Way represents an area boundary, and 3D models such as buildings are also represented by adding height information to the area.

JA:Elements - OpenStreetMap Wiki

Node, Way, and Relation are assigned attribute information (Tag). This add-in acquires and models Ways with Tags for buildings, roads, railroads, bodies of water, and bridges.

Building

Models each building (Way tagged with Building ). If the option “Generate as in-place mass” is checked, the building is modeled as a DirectShape in the Mass category; if unchecked, the building is modeled as a DirectShape in the General Model category. If height information is given, it is used; if not, the height is estimated using the number of stories x 3 meters. If the number of stories is not given, it is assumed to be a 2-story building (6m).

Highway

Models each road (Way with Highway tag) such as driveways and sidewalks. If the “Generate as in-place mass” option is on, the road is modeled as a DirectShape in the Mass category; if it is off, the road is modeled as a subcompartment of a terrain solid.

Railway

Models all railroads ( Railway-tagged Ways), including subways and monorails, respectively. If the “Generate as in-place mass” option is on, the railroad is modeled as a DirectShape in the Mass category; if it is off, the railroad is modeled as a subcompartment of a terrain solid.

Water

Models water bodies such as rivers, lakes, etc. (Way with Water tag) respectively. If the “Generate as in-place mass” option is on, they are not modeled; if it is off, they are modeled as subsections of the terrain solid.

Bridge

Models each bridge (Way with Bridge tag). If the “Generate as in-place mass” option is on, they are not modeled; if it is off, they are modeled as subsections of the terrain solid.
