General Usage Instructions
The AR-media Plugin is installed as a Utility. You access the plugin's functionalities by using either the main rollout or the plugin's toolbar. You can display the plugin's rollout by:
- Going to the Utilities panel in 3ds Max
- Clicking the MAXScript button
- Selecting the AR-media entry in the dropdown list.
Using the rollout you can opt-in for all of the plugin's available options. In particular, before performing any export, you must:
- Provide a token (that you can retrieve from your personal AR-media Studio account)
- Set a name for the model to export
Other options include the possibility to export and bake animations if required. From the main rollout, you can show the toolbar if, for any reason, it has been closed (just click the Toolbar button).
With all required data set (model's name and token) you can click any of the following buttons:
- All: Will export the whole 3D scene that will be converted and uploaded to your AR-media Studio account
- Selected: Will export only the currently selected objects
- Account: Will open the default web browser and take you to the AR-media Studio's login page
Using the toolbar you can perform the main exporting functionalities more quickly.
The installer that ran when you downloaded this app/plug-in from Autodesk App Store will start installing the app/plug-in. OR, simply double-click the downloaded installer to install the app/plugin. You may need to restart the Autodesk product to activate the app/plug-in. To uninstall this plug-in, exit the Autodesk product if you are currently running it, simply rerun the installer, and select the "Uninstall" button. OR, click Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features (Windows 7/8.1/10) and uninstall as you would any other application from your system.
The AR-media Studio platform and mobile player support the following features:
- Geometry: You can use all kinds of geometry as long as they can be converted to standard meshes. If you experience artifacts or errors regarding the geometry of exported models, try to collapse all the modifiers before exporting
- Animations: You can leverage on either rigid body transformations (translate, rotate, scale - at the mesh level, not at the vertex level) or rigging (bones systems, skinning). In general, you should always use keyframe-based animations. Regarding bone systems, it is strongly recommended to use bones systems that are completely connected, this meaning that every single bone must be connected to some other bone
- Materials: Always use the Standard (Legacy) or Multi/Sub-Object materials for which you can set Diffuse, Ambient colors as well as shiness/glossiness/opacity parameters. Regarding supported maps, you can rely on the following: Diffuse, Opacity, Bump (through Normal map), Specular Color, Glossiness and Emissive.
NOTE: Always assign a material to your models (even to just assign a simple color, otherwise they will look grey.
