Drawing Sync
Win64, EnglishGeneral Usage Instructions
Two panels are added to the Add-ins tab in the ribbon: Exchange and Drawing Sync.
- Exchange - is used to access your drawing database (dxedit, csvout) and to view changes you made in the current drawing session (dxsession), or since the previous save (dxpatch).
- Drawing Sync - is used to sync (dsync) and track history (dshistory) as an individual, or workshare as a team.
Drawing Sync commands are demand-loaded.
To start tracking history for your project folder
Start with a project folder on your device that contains a few drawings. When adding a project to local history, the project itself is not modified.
- In the Autodesk® AutoCAD®W ribbon, in the Add-ins tab, click Sync Central.
- If you see the Sync Central dialog, click Add a Project.
- In the Manage Projects dialog, specify a project folder that contains at least one drawing. Leave the Central Workshare blank for now.
- Drawings in sub-folders are also added. As best practice, avoid selecting root folders that contain multiple projects. You can add more projects later.
- Click Sync to add the initial files to history.
- Click History to show the history window. In the Sync History list, select a drawing.
The initial history first shows only one version. Repeat these steps after you add, delete, or edit and save a drawing. From history, you can then view and compare previous versions.
To create a workshare from a local project
Follow these steps to create the central location.
- If you have not done so already, follow the steps above to set up history for a local project folder.
- In the AutoCAD ribbon, in the Add-ins tab, click Sync Central.
- In the Sync Central dialog, click Add a Project to manage projects.
- In the Manage Projects dialog, specify your project folder. You can use the top […] button to select an existing project.
- In the Central Workshare box, specify a shared folder. The folder should exist and be empty. For example, \\drawings\centrals\project-000\ for an office network.
- Click Sync to create the central location.
Because you only need to connect to the central location when you synchronize, you can specify a thumb drive as a central location.
To create a workshare in the cloud
Setting up a cloud workshare is similar to creating an office network. However, you first need to prepare a GitHub (or compatible) repository.
- Set up an empty repository on GitHub. See our Getting Started videos and documentation for details: https://drawingsync.com/doc.
- Follow steps 1-4 above (To create a workshare from a local project).
- In the Central Workshare box, specify the repository url. For example, https://github.com/drawingsync/sample.git.
- Click Sync. If a Cloud Workshare dialog displays, enter your credentials. For the password, enter an access token.
