Create DWTs by importing Layers (including the Freeze, Color, Linetype, Lineweight, Plot, and Description) from a CSV file. CSVtoDWT will also export Layers from DWT to CSV for easy editing.

General Usage Instructions

CSVtoDWT contains two functions used for creating and/or editing your DWT layers using a text editor or spreadsheet application.

These functions can be loaded from either the command line or from the ribbon under Plug-ins/Add-Ins.

The MakeDWT command will populate an open drawing with Layers (including the Freeze, Color, Linetype, Lineweight, Plot, and Description) from a predefined CSV (Comma Separated Values) file.

This will facilitate the process of implementing your CAD Standards by quickly generating DWT files from definitions found in an external document (such as a PDF).

With the ExportLayers command you can quickly and easily modify DWT content by exporting layers from the current drawing to a CSV file and editing them in a spreadsheet application, such as Microsoft Excel, or in any basic text editor.

This updated CSV file can then be reimported into your Autodesk® AutoCAD® Drawing Template using the MakeDWT command. Any layers in the file that are also defined in the CSV will be updated to match the CSV properties (and any new layers will be added).

Ribbon/Toolbar Icon Command Command Description

Create a CSV file containing all the Layers (including the Freeze, Color, Linetype, Lineweight, Plot, and Description) from the open AutoCAD drawing file

Select a predefined CSV file and CSVtoDWT will generate layers in the open AutoCAD drawing with the defined properties

The installer that ran when you downloaded this plug-in from Autodesk App Store has already installed the plug-in. You may need to restart Autodesk Product to activate the plug-in. To uninstall this plug-in, click Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features (Windows 7/8/8.1/10) or Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Windows XP), and uninstall as you would any other application from your system.

Additional Information

Since the CSV file format uses commas to delineate columns, using a comma in the Layer Description is handled by adding quotes around the entire layer description, i.e. Layer1,”My Description”, 2, Continuous, 0.18 (this is performed automatically when using the ExportLayers command).

When creating the CSV file, quotes must be placed around any Layer Description containing commas.

Note: Some spreadsheet applications will automatically add these quotes and users adding them manually will inadvertently introduce errors, i.e. Layer1, ”My Description”, 2, Continuous, 0.18 (it is recommended that you verify your CSV file in a simple text editor before processing).

Colours in the CSV are defined by colour index, not by colour name. For example, you would enter the colour in the CSV as 1, not as Red.

The “frozen” and “noplot” columns can be left off if you do not want to change them but be careful when using Excel to define some layers with these settings and not others. Excel will create a CSV that has trailing commas for all layers where these settings are undefined This will result in the Plot flag being turned Off for all of these layers when you run MakeDWT. The best practice is to define all “frozen” and “noplot” settings explicitly if you are going to use them for any layers.

Known Issues

If DLL file is transferred via email/internet (not using the installer from Autodesk App Store) then .NET4.0 security restrictions may block the program’s use. If this occurs, the DLL will need to be unblocked via the file properties in order to load/run the program.
