ProtoTech's JT Exporter for AutoCAD®
Win64, EnglishGeneral Usage Instructions
1. Install the Plugin
Download and install the app.
2. Open AutoCAD & Load Your Model
Start AutoCAD and open the model you want to export.
3. Find the Plugin
- Go to the “Add-ins” tab on the ribbon bar.
- You’ll see three buttons: Export, Preferences, and About Us.
4. Export Your Model
- Click Export.
- A Save As window will pop up. Choose the folder and file name where you want to save your .jt file.
5. Set Your Preferences (Optional)
In the Preferences window, you can customize how your JT file is created:
- Write Out Point Bodies – Include points in the export (off by default).
- Write B-Rep Data – Export full CAD geometry (B-Rep) along with the visualization model.
However, the JT format also supports the storage of true CAD geometry (B-Rep). By default, we write the Viz-Rep version of the model as this is extremely fast and is also what the typical user is looking for. Checking the "Write B-Rep Data" will instruct the plugin to include the B-Rep data in the JT file. - JT Version Number – Default is JT 9.0, but you can choose from 6.4 to 10.5.
- JT Faceting Options – Please note that ANY faceting option listed here is relative to Visualization Representation (V-Rep) JT files ONLY. For JT files with B-Reps we use the JT Open recommended option "JtkSMART_LODS" in our translator, which automatically creates several LODs based on the B-Rep data. With B-Rep JT files, it is presumed that the applications importing them will use the B-Rep data to generate a faceted mesh on the importing application side and thus faceting options are irrelevant.
- Reset Defaults – Quickly go back to the original settings.
