COINS
Search and select entities based on their property data. This plug-in provides powerful Autodesk® AutoCAD® Quick-Select functionality for Autodesk® AutoCAD® Architecture AutoCAD MEP property data.

General Usage Instructions

This utility is designed to search for and select objects based on their attached property data. This can be used, for example, to search for all doors with a particular fire rating, highlight them, and change their fire rating. The interface should be familiar to users of the AutoCAD Quick-Select routine.

Once loaded, pick the tool from the "Plugins" ribbon tab or type COINSPROPERTYSELECT on the command line.

As any relevant objects are highlighted once the command is complete, the property data may be changed by clicking the “Extended Data” tab of the property palette. Also, further filtering may be done by re-starting the command and working with the already filtered selection set.

Each option in the dialog is explained below:

Apply to - This allows the user to search and filter based on all the entities in the drawing or just on the current selection set. The option to filter based on the current selection set is only available if there is a selection set prior to starting the command, and if that selection set contains property data.

Object type - This allows the filter to be applied to either all the object types in the drawing (e.g. doors and windows) or just to one particular type (such as doors).

Properties - This shows all the property sets (and properties) that have been applied to objects of the type selected above. For example, in the picture on the first page, the properties list shows all the property sets applied to all the doors in the current drawing. Please note that this does not show property set definitions that are unused in the drawing. Also, the properties must exist in the current drawing – it will not work across external references.

Operator - As with the AutoCAD Quick-Select routine, this controls the range of the filter – allowing the user to search for properties that match a specific criterion. If the user wishes to search for values within a given range (such as fire ratings between 2 and 3 hours), then this routine should be run twice – once using the “greater than” operator and then again, using the current selection set as the input, using the “less than” operator.

Value - Here the user supplies the value to filter on if required. Expanding the drop-down box will show all the values applied to the above filters – this can be useful to query what values have been used in the current drawing.

Apply formatting to property values - The values above can either be shown using their raw data or be formatted using their attached property data format. Please note that if you are searching for numeric ranges that sometimes the raw unformatted data provides more accurate results.

Append to current selection set - As with Quick-Select, the results can either be appended to the current selection set or replace it.

Zoom to selection set - If this option is ticked then when the user presses OK, AutoCAD will zoom to any matching objects as well as selecting them.
