General Usage Instructions

Welcome to our CCLS Lot Grading Tools app. Below are the instructions on how to use our app. The CCLS Grading Tools work for Autodesk® Civil 3D® 2020-2026.

  1. To ensure our app identifies or recognizes the residential lots, you will need closed polygons or parcels for those lots in the grading design base.
  2. If you are not using parcels, open your base file containing your residential lots, isolate the ROW line, project outer boundary line, and lot lines, then run the BPOLY command to create closed polylines of the individual lots. Next, copy those polylines (using copybase) into your grading base file.
  3. In the grading base file, select the CCLS Grading tab and click the Lot Grading app icon.
  4. In the Lots tab, first set the lot grading criteria in the Default Lot Settings.
  5. In the Default Lot Settings tab, select the back-of-lot surface. For example, you can target the existing grade elevation.
  6. Next, set your lot back swale radius and back drainage swale lot distance. Typically, this is the midpoint between the house pad and the back property line.
  7. Next, set your lot property drainage swale slope (the swale between the lots).
  8. The middle section (cyan color) is where you set the pad elevation. For instance, if you want the house pad elevation to be 6 inches higher than the back lot drainage swale high point elevation.
  9. Then, select the surface that you will connect to at the ROW. Typically, this is your road corridor surface.
  10. The last item at the bottom is the surface where you want all the feature lines that the app will create. This is usually your main overall proposed surface design.
  11. On the right side, you will select the different types of grading you can perform, which sets the high points. If you hover over the options, you will see a simple diagram of the grading design.
  12. If you wish for the back swale high point to always be on the high side of the property, which is the high side of the road slope, select Type B.
  13. Next, click the Building Setback tab. Here, you will input your residential lot setbacks.
  14. Next, click the Orientation tab. Here, you will set the back-of-lot distance for knuckle lots. Refer to the diagrams.
  15. Next, click the Labels tab. Here, you can set the default label style, layers, and marker style.
  16. Next, click the Site tab. Here, you can set the site for your feature lines.
  17. Now, go back and click the Lots tab. In this last step, you will either select the Parcel or Polyline options to choose your residential lots.
  18. Select all the lots facing a road, then press Enter.
  19. At the command prompt, it will ask you to select the road alignment in front of your lots.
  20. The app will run and create the feature lines for the pads, spot grade the lots, and update your proposed surface with your new feature lines.
  21. Click the Close button on the Lot Grading app.
