An Autodesk® Civil 3D® Plugin to generate/Update Gravity Pipe Networks from shape file.

General Usage Instructions

This application is integrated with the WA Subscription system. Users are required to authenticate before accessing the tool. The authentication remains valid for the same day, and users must complete the authentication process once each day upon their first launch.

 The solution adds a tab named “Gravity Tools” to the Civil 3D ribbon. The tab contains panels and buttons for all the commands in the solution. The ribbon consists of the following: 

  •  “Gravity Tools” tab
  • “Shapefile Connection” panel
  • “Create” button
  • “Update” button
  •  “Export Shapefile”
  •  “Export” button
  •  “House Connection” panel
  •  “Draw Pipes in Profile” button
  •  “Auto Labels” button
  •  “Help” panel
  •  “Help” button

Installation/Uninstallation

Run the Setup file “Civil3DGravityToolsSetup.msi” and follow the installation steps. Do not change the directory of installation.

The installation will be for all the users on the machine. The installation will be for Autodesk Civil 3D 2025 or later

1.1    Minimum Requirements

The minimum requirements to run the solution are the following:

·        Microsoft ® Windows® 10 (64 bit only).

·        dotnet8.0-windows  or later.

·        AutoCAD Civil 3D 2025 installed on the machine.

Additional Information

1.1    Add Profile Labels to House Connection Pipes

House connection pipes drawn in profile views can be automatically labelled using various methods using this solution. The user can select the target pipes by one of the following methods:

  • By property value,
  • By pipe style, or
  • By manual selection.

The labels can be added to the same pipe if drawn in multiple profile views, or specific profile views can be selected.

  1. The location of the labels can be defined using the “Label Adjustment” options.
  2. To add house connection labels to profile pipes, do the following:
  3. Use the command “ProfilePipeAutoLabels”or use the button “Auto Label” under “Gravity Tools” tab in “House Connection” panel.
  4. In the dialog, select the pipe network of the pipes.
  5. Select the selection criteria, by property, by pipe style, or by manual selection. Note: manual selection can be from multiple pipe networks.
  6. If selecting by property, select the target property from the drop list, select the condition, and enter the value.
  7. Select the label style to be used.
  8. Check “Add to all profile views” to add labels to the same pipe if drawn in multiple profile views, or select target profile views.
  9. Define the label adjustment options. For more information, refer to Labels Adjustment Options.
  10. Click Ok.

  1. Create Pipe Network from Shapefiles

To create a pipe network from Shapefiles, Shapefiles for either pipes or structures exported from analysis software or any GIS software shall be used, the shapefiles shall meet the following criteria as minimum:

·        Shall contain a unique field (unique ID),

·        Shall be a type of lines, polylines for pipes shapefiles, and

·        Shall be a type of points for structures shapefiles.

To create a pipe network from shapefiles, do the following:

1.      Use the command “CreatePipeNetworkFromShapeFile”or use the button “Create” under “Gravity Tools” tab in “Shapefile Connection” panel.

2.      In the creation dialog step 1, click the buttons to select shapefiles to connect to, and click “Connect”. Refer to Gravity Image 2.

3.      In step 2, write the network name.

4.      Select the part list.

5.      Check the “Snap pipe and structure tolerance” to connect pipes and structures within the tolerance value.

6.      Set the replacement characters for restricted characters. Refer to Restricted Characters.

7.      In step 3, set the pipes data mapping, the dropdown list contains all fields in the Shapefile. Refer to Mapping. Refer to Figure 4. Alternatively, import map using the “Import Map” button, for more information, refer to Export/Import Mapping Settings.

8.      In step 4, set the structures data mapping as well as done in step 3.

9.      In step 5, set the pipes sizes mapping by selecting the family and the size. Each size found in the fields mapped to sizes parameters (Diameter, height, length, and width) will be listed. Refer to Figure 5.

10.      In step 6, set the structures sizes mapping as done in step 5.

11.      Optional: the mapping settings can be exported to be used in creation of another network, for more information, refer to Export/Import Mapping Settings.

12.      Click “Finish”, an event dialog box appears to show the process progress.
