Contour Groove

Contour Groove

Win64, English

Autodesk, Inc.
App for generating contour groove from extracted boundary contour of an image.

General Usage Instructions

Once installed, the "Contour Groove" add-in will create a new button in the menu of the "Model" workspace's "Sketch" panel.

While running the command these options will be available:

• Image File Path: Any image file path can be provided that does not exceed 500 pixels in width and height. A few sample images are provided in the "Images" folder inside the add-in's folder

• Operation: Choose cut to create a groove or join to extend it beyond the face.

• Show Preview: If this option is chosen, a window with the detected edges from the image are displayed. The Threshold value that controls the contour detection can be adjusted before the groove is created.

Once the command is finished you will see a grooved plate that matches the extracted image contour. You can refer to some of the screenshots.

Installation/Uninstallation

Install:

The installer that ran when you downloaded this app/plug-in from Autodesk App Store has already installed the app/plug-in.

OR, simply double-click the MSI to install the app.

Uninstall:

You can unload the add-in without uninstalling it by clicking the "Stop" button when the add-in is selected in the list box on the "Add-Ins" tab of the "Scripts and Add-Ins" dialog.

Unchecking "Run on Startup" causes the add-in not to be loaded in future sessions of Autodesk® Fusion 360™.

To uninstall this plug-in, exit the Autodesk product if you are currently running it, simply rerun the installer, and select the "Uninstall" button.

OR, you can uninstall it from 'Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features' (Windows 7/8/8.1), just as you would uninstall any other application from your system.

Additional Information

The source code for this add-in, written in C++, is available inside the add-in's folder. To build it, please download OpenCV from the link provided below and link the project to its static libraries.

The addin may take several minutes to complete if the image is detailed with too many contour edges. As there is no way to interrupt it at present, please try with a smaller image if the image is too detailed.

The contour groove is created as an extrusion feature. If the resulting groove is not as you expected, the extrude feature can be edited manually and the profiles unselected.

Known Issues

The addin may take several minutes to complete if the image is detailed with too many contour edges. As there is no way to interrupt it at present, please try with a smaller image if the image is too detailed.

The contour groove is created as an extrusion feature based on contour detected from the image using Canny edge detection. So, if the resulting groove is not as you expected, the extrude feature may need to be edited manually and the profiles unselected.
