Once installed, the featureMigrator add-in will create a new button featureMigrator in the “coolOrange” Tab of the Assembly environment (an assembly document needs to be active).

When pressing this button, the featureMigrator add-in will display a new browser in the Inventor Browser Pane. This browser will display only the supported features for migration in the active assembly.

At this point, only the following assembly features are supported for migration:

- ExtrudeFeature

- HoleFeature

- CircularPatternFeature (only patterning Extrude and Hole)

- RectangularPatternFeature (only patterning Extrude and Hole)

Migrating Assembly Features to Parts

The user can migrate assembly features by selecting them in the featureMigrator browser: by right-clicking on one or several of them, then use the “Send to Parts” commands.

When migrating an assembly feature to the parts, the featureMigrator will transfer the feature to the part.

Per default setting a backup file of the modified component is created before the modification is made. If this file name already exists at the same location the featureMigrator will display the “File Overwrite” dialog, prompting the user for a new name to affect the generated copied part.

FeatureMigrator Settings

The settings dialog provide the opportunity for the user to select the action to take for all the assembly features migrated {Suppress if Succeeded, Suppress always, Delete if Succeeded, Delete always or Nothing}, also for the part features that haven’t been migrated correctly {Suppress, Delete or Nothing} (Features created by the add-in can be in an invalid state in the parts for a number of reasons).

It also gives the possibility to set the options for each feature, when the checkbox "Set options for each feature" is selected. In this case, the dialog "Detailed Report" is displayed after the "Send to parts" command was selected.

Associativity Between Part & Assembly Features

Associativity is controlled by the browser available in the Part document, displayed by activating the command under coolOrange Tab -> featureMigrator Panel -> featureMigrator button.

This browser will list all the existing features resulting from migration by the tool and that is of supported type for associativity (only hole & extrude at the moment: holes & extrusions resulting from migration of a pattern won’t be supported for associativity).

The update is not automatic (upon opening the part) but has to be performed by the user: « Update from Assembly » context item.

In case the assembly file cannot be located i.e. location or filename has changed), a file resolution dialog will be displayed, prompting the user to find the original assembly file. If the assembly cannot be located, the features won’t be updated.

The installer that ran when you downloaded this app/plug-in from Autodesk App Store will start installing the app/plug-in. OR, simply double-click the downloaded installer to install the app/plugin.

You can unload the plugin without uninstalling it by unchecking the "Loaded/Unloaded" check box associated with the plugin in the Inventor Add-In Manager. You may have to restart Inventor to completely unload the application.

To uninstall this plug-in, exit the Autodesk product if you are currently running it, simply rerun the installer, and select the "Uninstall" button. OR, you can uninstall it from 'Control Panel/Programs and Features' (Windows 7/8.1/10), just as you would uninstall any other application from your system.

IMPORTANT: coolOrange will not further develop the app or provide new versions for newer Inventor versions. featureMigrator for Inventor 2020 is the last version, which is published. We reserve the right to remove the App from the Autodesk App Store at any time.
