Inventor Connector - Create and Update Data Exchanges

This topic details how you can create a Data Exchange using the Inventor Connector and Update them after making changes to the Inventor model.

 Create a Data Exchange

This topic details how to create a Data Exchange of your Inventor model using the Inventor Connector and save it to Autodesk docs. After successfully creating the Data Exchange, it will be listed in the Inventor Connector user interface to view or update later.

In the Inventor application, ensure you have saved all the changes to your Inventor model.

Click Data Exchange under the Data Exchange tab.

Click Create Data Exchange, and the Connector interface opens.

Enter the following:

Name: Enter a name for the Data Exchange. (Default value - Assembly Name_Name of View)

Save to: Select a folder in Autodesk docs to save your Data Exchange.

View: Select a design view.

         5. Click Create Data Exchange.

         6. Data Exchange will get created by considering active Model State of inventor model and selected Design view from the drop-down.

Note: If there are unsaved changes to your model, save the changes in Inventor before you proceed to create a Data Exchange. If you go ahead with creating an exchange with unsaved changes to the model, you will be prompted to save your changes before the Data Exchange is created.

After the exchange is created successfully, you can view the new Data Exchange listed in the Inventor Connector interface with details such as the name, version, date, and time.

Important: The up-arrow button beside the Data Exchange indicates that you created it using your Inventor model. If you modify your model locally, then you can update the Data Exchange with the latest changes.

Update a Data Exchange

You can update your Data Exchange with the latest changes you've made to the Inventor model and its properties.

Make your changes to the Inventor model and save it in Inventor.

Click Data Exchange under the Data Exchange tab.

Select the Data Exchange in the Connector interface.

Click the More menu  and click Update from the dropdown list. The Data Exchange will update with the latest changes and versions up (for example, V1 to V2).

The Data Exchange is listed in the Connector interface after the load is completed.

Important: The down arrow button beside the Data Exchange indicates that the Data Exchange is loaded from Autodesk Docs and not created by you. If you make changes to the model, you can only create a Data Exchange with the latest changes but can't update an existing one in Autodesk Docs.

Load the Latest Version of a Data Exchange

When a latest version of a Data Exchange is available in Autodesk Docs, you can refresh the Connector to view the latest versions, and then select and load the Data Exchanges to your Connector by using the Load the latest feature.

While this feature allows you to remove the Data Exchange from the Connector interface and Inventor Model, it does not remove the Data Exchange from Autodesk Docs. This means that although the Data Exchanges may not be visible in the interface, they are still available in Autodesk Docs.

Select the Data Exchange from the Connector interface list.

Click the More menu  and click Unload Exchange from the dropdown list. It unloads the Data Exchange and removes it from the interface and Inventor Model.
