Description

Autodesk® Inventor® can import point data from an Excel file, but once the data has been imported, the link with the Excel file is not retained. If updates are required to the point data in the Excel file, the data must be manually re-imported and the associated model re-constructed. This is time consuming and inefficient.

The pointLinker tool allows Inventor users to import points from an Excel file, retaining a link to that file. Data can be imported (as with the existing command), update from the Excel file, or mapped to another Excel file.

  • Auto-Bend with 3D Line Creation
Jason Snyder | August 16, 2017 Verified Download (What's this?)

Awesome app, the only down side is it keeps turning on the "Auto-bend with 3D line creation" when I import points to create lines. If there is a way to keep and use whatever is ticked in my application settings it would be 100% perfect. Right now its 99.9%

  • Excel LINK!
Brent Barbour | June 22, 2017 Verified Download (What's this?)

A "link" to an Excel table is exactly what I was looking for! This is much better than the "Import Points" command that only imports the points one time without constraints. PointLinker maintains the link to the excel table so if the table were to change, the points will also update. Now Autodesk needs to replace "Import Points" with "PointLinker." Then allow iPart tables to direct different PointLinker tables, perhaps even have all the tables contained in the same multi-sheet Excel file, then you can more easily create a connector iPart with various pin or socket configurations.

  • Very helpful

The App allows users to work in excel (where they are more comfortable) to create lines and splines rather than Inventor equation curves which are more accurate but can be very cumbersome to use for parabolic curves. User can simply add more points in excel to capture level of accuracy needed... It's a game-changer for us.

Super application ! Serait-il possible de choisir tout de suite le rayon pour l'import de ligne ? Merci

Hallo Pierre-Yves, we are not sure whether we understand your question. Please could you contact support@coolOrange.com. Merci Markus

The radius by default is 5. That would be good to be able to define it from the beginning.

  • Microsoft Excel needed? why?
Erik Liermann | May 21, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

Since I don't use MS Excel (I use some other tables calculations software) I can't use the app. I recommend the developers make PointLinker work with ASCII files, e.g. CSV tables, that way all of us can use it.
