threadModeler
Digitally signed app
Description
The threadModeler tool has been developed to allow Autodesk® Inventor® users to generate a realistic modeled equivalent thread based on an existing Inventor thread feature. Users are able to select an existing thread feature in the model, which the threadModeler then converts to a realistic 3D modeled thread based on the underlying thread feature properties.
Modeled threads are generated saving a lot of time and effort for the user when compared with a manual approach, bringing a higher degree of realism to your models.

Unfortunately, threadModeler is discontinued and is not compatible with Inventor 2023.
The last version of threadModeler is compatible with Inventor 2018, 2019 and 2020.
We also released an online version which you can find it on https://threadmodeler.com.
Please use the online version for Inventor versions newer than Inventor 2020.

If anyone with inventor 2025 needs this. Instead of setting SeriesMax="lr30" change it to SeriesMax="lr31" in the method described by Phoebe Lewis in the comment WORKS IN 2024 WITH THIS METHOD
Taken from reddit user Imaginary_Phone_1785:
the CoolOrange app will work with all newer versions of Inventor including 2024. You just need to make a slight change to a text file to get it working again. Follow the following steps and it will work for you.
Install the app from Apps and then navigate to the c:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\coolOrange_threadModeler.bundle\ folder. In Notepad, open the PackageContents.xml file and edit the string SeriesMax="Ir24" to SeriesMax="Ir30". Save the file.
Now, in the Contents subfolder, open the coolOrange.ThreadModeler.Inventor.addin file in Notepad and delete the line 11 with the parameter SupportedSoftwareVersionSmallerThan. Save the file again.
Now run Inventor. In the Tools > Options > Add-ins ribbon, open the dialog and unlock and load the coolorange-ThreadModeler plugin.

thật tuyệt khi sử dụng để không phải thấy hình dạng ren nhàm chán. Cảm ơn
Modeled threads should be a selectable option when adding threads! They should also retain the thread information as the non-modelled threads do!!!!!!
Love the app, still want the functionality in 2021 and beyond without an upload.
Awesome tool! But, ThreadModeler has only 2 standard types of thread (1. BSW Template and 2. ISO Template).
What about other standard threads?
Please update the tool.
Working on Inventor 2021 with tweakings. Look for Brian Bobbit on YouTube.
Is there any way to add new threads like normal threads.xls? I want to model PG threads.
It did not work for me.
Como instalar en inventor 2023 ????
necesito saber como hecerlo
no me quiere funcionar
Hi Carlos! Please try to use the online version of the theradModeler: http://www.threadmodeler.com/home This supports Inventor 2023. Saludos Markus
Carlos, ya no hacen mas la version para Inventor desktop. Podes is a la app on line y generarlo ahi. online version of the threadModeler: http://www.threadmodeler.com/home Saludos, Marcelo
The online version is not working... I am trying to use the solution posted below where you open the coolOrange file in notepad and change the revision number. I do not see that file when I search my c:/drive. Anyone have any ideas?
I nedd to make a trapezoidal thread the templates Iso is only work for a metric thread
Can anyione help me please
1. Go C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\coolOrange_threadModeler.bundle\Contents
2. Find "coolOrange.ThreadModeler.Inventor.addin" open this file by use notepad
3.Change number to be auto desk your version <SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan>21 <SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>26
2021 = GreaterThan>21 LessThan>26
2022 = GreaterThan>22 LessThan>27
2023 = GreaterThan>23 LessThan>28
GreaterThan> = your version
LessThan> = your version + 5
Thank you
Thanks for clearing it up, it's working
Thank you! You absolutely rock!
Thanks alot! :*
What a legend, Thank you!
Works with 2024 version as well. Thank you so much! I have been using this trick the last 3 versions.
still working! thx!
You Sir are a legend! Still working as of May 2024 on the 2024 version. This does raise a very good question, why the heck is this not part of Inventor!?
Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to install threadModeler in Inventor 2023, I was checking that there are people who have achieved it in version 2022, but the link they used is no longer available, I need your help, please.
Hi, there is way how to use this app with Inventor 2023. You can see advise on this site.... for 2023: GreaterThan>22.. LessThan>28..
Thanks Milan, I followed this procedure 1. c:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\coolOrange_threadModeler.bundle\ folder. In Notepad, open the PackageContents.xml file and edit the string SeriesMax="Ir24" to SeriesMax="Ir26" 2. Now, in the Contents subfolder, open the coolOrange.ThreadModeler.Inventor.addin file in Notepad and edit GreaterThan>22.. LessThan>28 . Save the file again.
Not compatible with 2023 file
So do I
I downloaded and installed it for IV 2022... but it doesn't show up in the add-ins? It shows up in the "App Manager" as "up to date"...
Search "Alicia Clark" in this page, you can find the solution. open this file "coolOrange.ThreadModeler.Inventor.addin" (I use the Visual Studio to open it), then change the vaules as Djmocontato Djmocontato says(20 to 22, 25 to 27), and save the file, then restart the inventor. Then follow the solution "Problem: The threadModeler panel is not visible in the coolOrange ribbon after installation" descripbed in https://coolorange.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/THREAD/pages/846397450/Troubleshooting
Working in 2021 and 2022 FIX Folder ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\coolOrange_threadModeler.bundle\Contents File: coolOrange.ThreadModeler.Inventor Change those 2 lines to 22 and 28 "SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan 22 "SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan 28
For Inventor 2022 I modified the coolOrange.ThreadModeler.Inventor file to 22 and 27. It worked. But I had to unlock as per this instruction. https://coolorange.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/THREAD/pages/846397450/Troubleshooting
IT IS ALIVE...IT IS ALIVE Thank you, finally it is working again.
WORKS GREAT! THANK YOU
Positives:
- It works great
- It looks great, though I don't know what impact it has on Inventor performance if used extensively throughout a project
- Search other reviewers for how to modify C:Program Data to make it work in 2022 and it will run fine.
Negatives that I see:
- It doesn't play quite perfectly with Inventor. You may have issues with working with your part after using thread modeler (extruding, revolving, chamfering etc.).
- Unfortunately it doesn't update if you modify dimensions. I just delete the revolutions and coil it created and start over. For parts you know won't be modified it's great.
- If it locks up for some reason, there's no x button. You pretty much have to restart Inventor.
como hago para que funcione en la versión 2022
The Minor diameter created by software is wrong. It's small than standard. please check.
Yes I concur. I've stopped using it now and started creating my own threads. Much more accurate.
I am using Inventor 2020, this plugin doesn't show up on the tab after installation, but I found it has been installed on the inventor through the app manager? why is that?
Hello, I have the same problem as you and I slove it. flow the website. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Vault-ribbon-does-not-appear-in-Inventor.html
i have the same problem, did someone solve that?
Maybe you need to unblock and activate the 'Load automatically' and 'Loaded' settings in the Add-In Manager. Please refer to the section "Problem: The threadModeler panel is not visible in the coolOrange ribbon after installation" of the FAQ (https://coolorange.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/THREAD/pages/846397450/Troubleshooting).
Really good and usefull plugin! Inventor 2021 please! :-)
The cosmetic thread conversion from http://www.threadmodeler.com/home" target="_blank">http://www.threadmodeler.com/home does not work.
2021 online version... no thanks! tried it once, got and error and not sure I want to be uploading my files to a random server (privacy issues) Unfortunate you have stopped developing it. :(
Hello, thank you very much for the application. It works perfectly. In relation to the 2021 version of Inventor, how do you have it?
Thank you,
Jordi Molero
There will be no update to Inventor 2021. For 2021 you can try this online version: http://www.threadmodeler.com/home
hi will it be any update so it works for 2021 inventor ?
There will be no update to Inventor 2021. For 2021 you can try this online version: http://www.threadmodeler.com/home
Молодцы! Спасибо вам! Все работает 2021.
Perfect app.
Use it a lot under inventor 2018 but now I'm under inventor 2021 and doesn't work...
Can we hope a fast update for Inventor 2021 ?
Best regards
There wont be an update to Inventor 2021, 2020 was the latest update. For 2021 you can try this website: (http://www.threadmodeler.com/home)
this application "saves" inventory which is obsolete because of the lack of this functionality in native as on fusion! However, currently impossible to install it on inventor 2021! when will you update please?
This feathur is long overdue in Inventor, SoldWorks has had it now for years.
I would like Autodesk to put thread cutting option into the Hole command, label the options: SHADED THREAD, MODELED THREAD.
You also can try the online version: http://www.threadmodeler.com/home
I contacted CoolOrange regarding backwards compatability of the latest version as it did not work on my installation of Inventor 2013. Manuel got back to me with a possible workaround, which I tried and after a bit of fiddling I've managed to get it working. For more info go and have a look at https://coolorange.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/THREAD/pages/846430210/FAQ+threadModeler.
Working Fine on 2021
I cant, could you tell me how to install it?
Works perfectly in inventor 2021. Thank you!
How you made it? i read the last version is only for the 2020 IN
Be advised that the coolOrange App does not work with tapered thread (e.g., NPT thread). Regards.
As others have said, to get it to work with 2021 simply navigate to this file: open c:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\coolOrange_threadModeler.bundle\Contents\coolOrange.ThreadModeler.Inventor.addin and edit <SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan> (you can use notepad) and change the line <SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan>21..</SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan>
<SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>26..</SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>
Restart the program and itll load in!
Thankyou ! You are a life saver.
Works perfectly in inventor 2021. Thank you!
you are the best thank you
Funktioniert Danke
This worked for me! Thanks
where do I find this at, is it in Inventor somewhere or on my PC?
Thank you!!!
This info would have been useful to note: if you cannot see the c:\ProgramData folder, go to Control Panel, then Appearance & Personalization, then Folder Options. Click the "View" tab and make sure the bullet that says "Show Hidden Files & Folders" is selected. After you click Apply it will show up.
Thanks a lot!!! I was so frustrated that it didn't work, but now the skies are sunny again ;-)
Super klappt perfekt vielen Dank
Many thanks Alicia Clark. I couldn't have figured it out by myself. A small additional note: It might still not appear in the navigation panel, therefore one has to go to "Tools->Add-Ins" and manually change the default mark "Blocked" to "Load Automatically".
GENIUS, god and inventor bless you.
Hi, Thank's for this help but don't work for me... Try with <SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan>20..</SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan> <SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>26..</SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan> And <SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan>21..</SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan> <SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>25..</SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan> But no change... Add-in available in Inventor but can't select the hole fonction...
Thank you
Thank u man ! U Genius !
Thank You !!
Thanks a lot! This works even for the 2022 version by changing: <SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan>22..</SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan> <SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>27..</SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>
Merci beaucoup!!! RG
WOW legend, thanks!
It is actually work for 2022 after this small improvement - just don't forget to unblock it in Add-Ins and make/check a settings Load Automatically + Loaded ))))
ZAJEBISCIE! THANK YOU!
wow man, thank you so much!!
Works perfectly in inventor 2021. Thank you!
Would Autodesk please put this peanuts coding in their official product. It saves a lot of time in 3D printing, we need this funkctionality. Does someone listen/ read, please confirm.
To my knowledge they have this functionality in Fusion 360, which is free to use for hobbyists.
All the videos I've seen people can do thread pitch with a decimal. That simply does not work for me on inventor 2020...
Does someone know how to do it ? Is there a configuration somewhere ?
I basically can't do a M3x0.5 or M4x0.8. It just doesn't let me. Doesn't even offer an other pitch.
If I try to go a M10x1.5, that pluging replace the 1.5mm pitch with a 1.0mm
Thanks for your answers !
Hello Pierre, Just having the same issue... Did you solved it?
Hello Pedro ! So ... I managed to get it work but I'm not 100% sure of the reason why. But I think the main reason is that I wasn't using the right template. I tried making a M3x0.5 and it worked while using the template C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\coolOrange_threadModeler.bundle\Contents\Thread Templates\BSW Template.ipt To be honest it's a bit of a shame that the plugin does not really utilize all the thread profiles that inventor utilize. Hope it will work for you !
Honestly, I am not savvy at any of this, not a programmer, engineer and can barely use this software. That said, it worked for me in version 21 by making the following changes.
<SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan>21..</SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan>
<SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>26..</SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>
Where did you make these changes?
worked for me to. had to change both 20 and 25 to 21 and 26. thanks. changes are made here . go to this file C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\coolOrange_threadModeler.bundle\Contents. then open ''coolOrange.ThreadModeler.Inventor.addin'' in notepad and change the numbers as stated above.
for 2021 open c:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\coolOrange_threadModeler.bundle\Contents\coolOrange.ThreadModeler.Inventor.addin and edit <SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>
I see: <SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>25..</SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan> What do I change the value to for 2021? Thank you!
is there a way to make this work with 2021?
How do I get it to work in 2021? I gave it a 5 since I know you will solve this problem ;)
2021 version would be great.
coolOrange will not further develop the app or provide new versions for newer Inventor versions. You can find the source code for the threadModeler on a public GitHub repository: https://github.com/coolOrangeLabs/inventor-thread-modeler
Can you guys get this working with Inventor 2021 please.Thanks.
+1
edit file "coolOrange.ThreadModeler.Inventor.addin" <SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>

Thread Modeller is a fantastic app, which makes adding realism to my models ( for my client to see ) so much easier. But when is the 2021 version arriving ?
Very Best plugin
ThreadModeler no longer works on Inventor 2021, is it possible to have an upgrade?
Thank's
Thanks a very useful addition. Please make support 2021
Pasame tu correo electronico.
Muito bom o app mas é preciso corrigir este problema.
Works great and is easy to use. However, I would like to see additonal templates added besides ISO and BSW. I use this feature primairly to display threads on my stl files for 3D printing instead of manually making my threads. Definitley a time saver.
you juxing luowen gongju jiu geng hao le ( ̄▽ ̄)"
It's very nice program. Works great with metric profile but I needed to make ISO trapezoidal tread and didn't recognise it.
Con Inventor 2019 lavora molto bene ottimo
Tried using this to easily 3D print something with male and female threads. Their modeler doesn't have any tolerance for male to female and did not work.
This does work but you have to add in your own clearance, allow 0.3mm or more depending on your printer. For example if your external thread is on a shaft of 25mm, the internal hole for the thread diameter needs to begin at 25.3mm, then use the thread feature and the coolorange tool which would will a gap of 0.15mm all the way around. increase the gap until it works with your printer.
Today I tried it in Inventor 2019. It function. For interior thread it is necessary to make the hole and thread have you make extra.
Nice :)
Добрый день! Эта надстройка для тех, кто занимается графикой, или на рендеринг конечной модели...для разработки КД не годится, не отображает в чертеже резьбу, а так штука интересная.
Thanks for this useful app.... To bad Inventor does not give us the option to model the threads like Fusion360. A few things could make it better, like... make it associative so that if I later change the thread size in the hole, the modeled thread feature also updates. Also, don't add the coil feature to a seperate solid.
For those that want ANSI (UNF AND UNC) just use the ISO template. It will give the correct thread model.
At titled
Thank you for the useful tool.
Is it popssible to turn tapped holes into modeled thread?
It would be great if UNC, UNF, and NPT thread forms were supported. This is the one improvement I can think of making.
Except there is no support for ACME threads. I would love to see that added in a future release.
Perfecto y fácil de usar
Very simple to use and amazing tool. Thanks for the development. Keep up the good work.
Fácil de intslar y aplicar, Genial¡¡¡
Thanks alot
Perfektní appka :) .... Perfect app. THANK YOU very much :)
Amazing. The app is small, making it easy to download just about anywhere, the installation takes seconds, and the thread-converting process is intuitive and easy to do. I literally can't think of anything else I'd want from this add-on.
Use it for 3D printing. Thanks :-)
It actually worked great for a 3/8" nc thread, but did not work for a 7/16" nc thread.
good
This is an excellent plugin to enable 3D printing of threads.
I use this for converting the built in thread representations to 3d printable objects. This saves me a lot of time and ensures an accurate thread.
I like it and I support your plug-in and YouTube channel. By the way, I'm Chinese. LoL
If you only use metric threads it would be a nice app, but threads for Pipes (Withworth) is not implemented yet. Even tough there is a template named BSW it is sketched with 60° not 55°. Of course this is changed fast, but I didn't get the thread with right inner dimension (for G3/4 around 23.7 instead of real-hole 24.5). So useless for 3D-Printing, only suitable for representation. Instead of lossing further time it's maybe better to generate his own ifeature... Good approach, would be nice to continiue to make it suitable for 3D-Printing even with pipe-threads or trapezoidal threads. Nevertheless, thanks for your work ;-)
how to annotate this thread in drawing for machine operator, I tried but wont let me to annotate!?
Click on the tool. Click on the tread file and boom! Saved me a lot of time instead of doing it manually.
Amazing and simple to use. Perfect for setting up my models for 3d Printing when I need threads.
Works better than expected. Relieve the work. Thank you!
Time saver if you need to fully model the thread. Only downside is creates large file size, but still great.
As everyone else is saying, great for the most part, just needs to be refined so can do more thread styles as well as holes properly. Otherwise, very handy and cool. The error I get the most is "Failed, try with a bigger pitch offset value", no matter what I try, does not work.
A great Tool
Hi there, As others have already thanked I also want to do: Thank you guys!
really easy to use great results .
It does what's supposeed to do. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Muy buena aplicacion! Yo te sugiero que hagas un pequeño tutorial de como hacer roscas para NPT ya que creo que nadie sabe como hacerlo. Gracias
it works very good, especially for 3D print.Thank you!
Does exactly what I needed it to do: make matching 3d-printable threads on holes and surfaces with just a handful of clicks. Support for more non-standard ISO metric threads would be cool, but there are plenty here as-is. Very handy extension to have!
very good. i can 3d print many gears now !!
Very useful for 3d printing and making your components look absolutely better!
Works perfectly! Thank you!
The downloading and aesthetics of threadModeler are fine, but, unfortunately, this application is not compatible with .idw drawings. Inventor does not recognize the threadModeler modifications to the .ipt, therefore they cannot be called out with hole/thread specifications on drawings. I submitted this to coolOrange tech support. They acknowledged that this was a problem and acted as though this was the first time anyone raised this issue with them.
I downloaded the plugin. The installation was successful but i can't see the app in the ribbon. Is it working in version 2018??
Had no problems with it, created perfect threads for 3d printing. Thank you
I don"t normally rate things but I wanted to give this five stars because of how amazingly useful this is. Huge thanks to the developers of this tool.
Have used it once where I wanted to really expose thread on a drawing, so that immediate clarification would happen. Worked well and was happy, good in context of time saving for those one off type jobs.
No hassle, as advertised
it's very responsive, however it's difficult to champher and seemingly impossible to extrude through.
did you get any solution for this?
Good afternoon, for the 2020 version, is it already under development? Thank you
