Polygon Cruncher V12

Polygon Cruncher V12

Win64, English

Mootools
Polygon Cruncher reduces the number of polygons of your 3D objects without changing their appearance. You keep all details, materials, texture, vertex colors, normals even at high optimization ratio.

General Usage Instructions

Run Polygon Cruncher for Autodesk® Maya®

Once the setup has been performed, launch Maya then:

  • Select one or more polygonal meshes.
  • Open Mel script editor.
  • Type polyCrunch in the editor and execute.
  • A polygonCruncherNode is added to the selected meshes and a single polygonCruncherSettingsNode is created and connected to the selected meshes.
  • Adjust the settings then click on the Calculate button and move the slider to optimize your meshes at the appropriate level.

Accessing optimization settings

When running the polyCrunch command, two kinds of nodes are created:

  • PolygonCruncherNodenodes which allows to perform the optimization on a part of the mesh.

To Select the vertices to optmize:

    1. Click on the button Start Edit Selection
    2. Select the vertices on the mesh using Select > Vertex / Face / Edge.

Two buttons give acess to the PolygonCruncherSettingsNode:

Edit Settings display the optimization dialogue without modifying the selection.

Select & Edit Settings select all the meshes connected to the polygonCruncherSettingsNode and display the dialog.

  • PolygonCruncherSettingsNode nodes which handle the optimization settings.
These settings are applied to all the meshes that were selected when running the polyCrunch command.

Notes:

  • The history must be turned on in order to use the plugin
  • If several meshes have been selected before applying the command, these meshes are linked together. The optimization settings apply to all meshes.
  • Polygon Cruncher can optimize only a part of the mesh. To select some vertices:
    • Click on Start Editing Selection
    • Select some vertices using Maya Select > Vertex (F9) command from the menu
    • Click on Stop Editing Selection to validate the selection.
    • Select Optimize Invert Selection if needed from dropdown menu
  • Type help polygonCruncher; from MEL editor to get more information about the switch that can be used.
  • Some attributes could be animated such the ratio attribute than can be driven from an external script.

Installation/Uninstallation

Installation

In order to install Polygon Cruncher :
  • Run Setup.exe.
  • Select Polygon Cruncher and select a version of the Maya plugin for Polygon Cruncher that matches your Maya version.
  • Install Polygon Cruncher in the Maya plugin directory.

At the end of the setup process, several files will be added to your Maya folder, and particularly:

  • A mll plugin that contains the Polygon Cruncher plugin
  • Some mel files that handles the loading of the plugin, add the polyCrunch command and handle the interface of the plugin.

Uninstallation can be done from Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

Version History

Version Number Version Description

12.15

Version 12.15 Improvements 3D support - New OpenGL viewer with improved performances and faster reactivity for huge meshes. - 3ds Max 2019 plugin support - Maya 2019 plugin support - MagicCruncher feature which is x8 time faster than in previous version. 3D viewer improvements - Sketchup 2019 file support. - LWO: file are read faster - Wavefront files are readed faster. - Faster triangulation - Object scene tree panel is filled faster - Better handling of relative texture paths when exporting 3d scenes. Application improvements - Merge by Materials now works with Sketchup files (when face have different front / back face materials)

11.20

Version 11.20 Polygon Cruncher for 3ds Max (Modifier plugin) - 3ds Max 2018 plugin support - 3ds Max 2017 support. - Sketchup 2016 support. - Solo Mode: it is now possible to adjust optimization individually with a single modifier applied to a set of object. - New optimisation mode that take care of the mesh corners, useful particularly for architectural scene. - Algorithm improvements leading to better results (more compact faces, better handling of planar faces, less destructive constraints...) - Batch optimization improvements including all the new optimization features and particularly MagicCruncher which allows automatic simplification. Polygon Cruncher for Maya - Maya 2017 support. - Maya version: point tweaks are now better handled. - Maya version: application might freeze under some circumstances (animation for example). - Maya version: optimization is no longer computed during playback for a better user feedback. - Mode Solo : possibilité d'optimiser les objets de la scène indépendemment les uns des autres. 3D support - Fbx, Collada, Sketchup, Cinema 4D: now reading camera information. * (numeric pad key) allows to switches from one camera to the other. - Fbx, Collada: now export camera. - Fbx: embedded textures folders are now removed when closing 3D viewer. - Fbx: embedded textures are now correctly reembedded after optimization. - Lwo: faster loading for files with UVs. - Sketchup: better instanciation of meshes and material support. - Weld points command is now really more faster. - StandAlone version: Apply button has been replaced by Save button which allows to save the scene with different optimization ratio. - Icons for panels. - STL import does not perform points welding any more. - Advanced mesh checking at import, which avoid some crashes under particular circumstances. Polygon Cruncher Standalone / Polygon Cruncher pour 3ds Max (Utility plugin) - It is now possible to adjust individually the level of details for each mesh of the scene. - New interface that makes easier the mesh selection, material selection, or the optimization on a point selection. - New optimisation mode that take care of the mesh corners, useful particularly for architectural scene. - MagicCruncher feature which adjust automatically the optimal optimization level for each object in the scene. - Ultra fast optimization on multi core computers (parallel algorithm). - Algorithm improvements leading to better results (more compact faces, better handling of planar faces, less destructive constraints...) - Better handling of the required point or face number. - Camera support for an easier control of the optimization on specific part of the scene. - New features related to object selection and show/hide features which simplifies optimization level adjustement on each object. - New features for deleting a specific mesh, deconnecting mesh into separated elements. - Improvement for displaying optimization constraints or hidding area which are left unoptimized. - Batch optimization improvements including all the new optimization features and particularly MagicCruncher which allows automatic simplification. - Command line improvements, including all the new optimization features and particularly MagicCruncher which allows automatic simplification.
