Description

Bonus Tools is a free collection of useful Maya scripts and plug-ins. After installing Bonus Tools, an additional pull-down menu will be added to the end of the main Maya menu. This new menu provides easy access to a variety of tools and utilities for daily use. The Maya Bonus Tools menu mimics the layout of the standard Maya menu sets. Each sub-menu contains a number of related tools. Each of these can be torn off and floated just like standard Maya menus.

 

Bonus Tools are provided to you on an "AS-IS" basis; Autodesk® does not provide any support in connection with this collection of tools. However submission of problems and suggestions are encouraged and can be logged through from the Maya Help menu with Report a Problem or Suggest a Feature.

    I have Maya 2016 Mac version and have downloaded and successfully installed the Mac OS Bonus Tools. However, the 3ds import plugin does not show up at all anywhere in the windows/preferences/plugins lists. Anyone else had this problem? Thanks.

It gives me this error: This application failed to start because it could not find or load Qt platform plugin "windows" in "".     I'm using Maya 2015 LT SP1. I installed BonusTools and they don't show up anywhere, not the plug-in manager or anywhere else. All I need to do is import a 3ds file. When I found the 3dsImport.mll and copied it to my plugins folder, it showed up in the plugins manager. However when I try to load it I get // Error: line 1: The plug-in is not compatible with this application (3dsImport). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    I installed Maya 2016.5 and bonus tool. Auto UV Unwrap does not work. What's worse after the installation also in Maya 2016 Auto UV Unwrap and unfold 3d does not work. It is impossible to work with UV. I start work Maya, a great program, but new versions - a pity that I know now - not suitable for work for several months. How did retrieve previous versions of bonus tooll before Maja extension 2. It worked.

    For some reason Maya should have given 'redeclaration errors' before but didn't. (It would mostly do it in the script editor but not if you actually ran a script).. It's actually good that this is now in (2016Ext 2, SP1) but that screws up a lot of scripts where people apparently declared an array twice :).. Including some of mine own scripts... and the bonusTools ;)

    Steven Roselle The autounwrap Unfold3d (maya 2016.5 Sp1) Unwraps only the parts that are on the either side of the Z-azis. and hence the texture is applied on those sides only, the rest of the parts are not unwrapped. its wierd.

    I'm a complete nube when it comes to python but module named bt_curveToTubeMesh is another name for the bt_curveToTubeMesh.py file so maybe the PackageContents xml paths for the scripts are borked/wrong.

    Bonus Tools are Great. But with this all in one installation is horrible idea. Since these are not supported, I want to be able to install them manually. At least at the beggining it should ask which ones you do want to install. Not to mention naming conventions for the package ? All versions are named the same ? All easy things to fix and to earn deserved 5 stars for the real thing. Packaging terrible !

    Easy fix for the unwrapUV. search for the file named: bt_autoUnwrapUVTool.mel between the bonus tools scripts, open it in notepad++ or other editor sarch and replace "Unfold3D -u" with "u3dUnfold". This should fix it.

    The Auto-Unwrap tools with the Unfold3D option are not working because the Unfold3D plugin commands have been renamed/replaced in the 2016.5 version of maya. (You can check by pressing the info button in plugin manager). The "Unfold3D" plugin now contains command "u3dUnfold". Either you will have to edit the mel files yourself or wait for an official reply/update for this problem.

    This is not a problem with BT it just means that the Unfold3D plugin needs to be loaded from the Plugin Manager.

    If you're getting 2503 / 2502 error try running as administrator. You won't get an option "run as administrator" by right clicking though.. Try running CMD (Command Prompt) as administrator and then run the installer in there..

    No error for me...I have installed properly as the older versions. Simply, the Bonus Tools menù doesn't appear. I tried to browse manually but it responds that the API version is different...I'm not a programmer but I think there is something wrong with the version of Bonus Tools! P.S.     Anyway to make this anymore difficult? Why not include these in the finished product, makes no sense if you aren't charging extra for the plugins. Keep getting errors about dividerlabel while simply trying to import 3ds max files, anyway, love maya, a bit disappointed in the lack luster polishing of the program though. No sense in all this crap.

    There are a lot of reasons why BonusTools is not part of Maya proper. For one they are developed outside of the normal dev process and there are many contributors that are not "Maya developers". But we also work with the developers to eventually convert many BonusTools into standard tools. There are around 10 current BonusTools that will likely be retired in the next version because equivalent features have since been added to Maya. Please keep in mined that a lot of people work on these on their own time and for the betterment of the user community. Sorry for your frustration, but as you said they are indeed free.

I uninstalled maya 2013, and then wanted to uninstall the 2013 bonus tools, but the windows uninstaller tells me that "it needs maya 2013 prior to installation." Seems there is a bug. I've seen some similar problems about 2014 version and solutions posted here. Could anyone help me with this? Thanks!

    You should only get this error once. If you click the menu item twice the Pattern Rename UI should come up without issue.

    Did you load the 3dsImport.mll plugin? Once loaded then 3ds will be in format pulldown menu for File Import options. Keep in mind it is old and unsupported so results may vary.

    Hey body. I use Maya so not too sure how to do this in Max but will assume that this basic function will be the same in these applications. In maya under file I can go to export and choose different file formats. I'm sure this is included in Max too. Find this function in Max and pick either obj or fbx. In Maya you won't be able to just load these files in you need to go to import under file and select the exported files. I hope it's not too late and will be helpful.

    Hey Steven and everyone, I'm using Maya 2015, and I'm having issues with the store pose to shelf tool and HIK. Whenever I try to store a pose all I get in the script editor is the warning about the attributes being the locked and therefore wont store the pose. Doesn't seem to matter whether there's a keyframe or not, it simply won't store the pose. It works just fine in 2014. Any ideas on what might be wrong would be awesome. Thanks! James

    Hey Steven, Sorry I meant to get back to you and say thanks for looking into it. I'm not sure why it worked for me then. I have found a work around by tweaking the mel script itself and commenting the check it's doing on that particular line, but that seems inefficient to me since I know it's there for a reason. Les, I'm glad it's working for you! I'll have to try to update my bonus tools and see if it's the same for me. Thanks for letting me know I'm not crazy! You should be able to load and delete a shelf at any time. What Maya does is when you delete a shelf, it adds a ".deleted" to the end of the file name thus telling it not to load. So you can always delete a shelf or reload it my adding in the ".deleted" or taking it out as needed. Hope that helps, James

The issue is that you uninstall Maya 2014, and the installer does a registry search.     I suddenly got the same issue and was driving me crazy, since it's a super convenient tool. Tried re-installing with no luck. If any of you guys still have the issue, just go to the Plug-In manager, and reactivate and auto load the Unfold3D.mll plug-in. Fixed it for me.

    Hi all. This is not a problem with the actual tool but rather a problem with the underlying Unfold3D plugin getting unloaded for some reason. Not sure why but it got unloaded somewhere along the way. Simply go to Window>Setting/Preferences>Plug-in Manager and find the Unfold3D plugin and click load + auto-load. Then the AutoUnwrap tool should work as expected.

    If you are having "autoUnwrapBorderEdges" and "unwrapBaseShaderSG" errors when attempting to use the Unwrap tools, try this: In the outliner, see if your mesh has a namespace with a colon (e.g. "Object:Mesh" instead of just "Mesh"). To remove the namespace, first type [namespace -set ":"] (without []'s) in the MEL command window. Then rename your object in the outliner to remove the colon (in my case above, leaving just "Mesh"). The unwrap tool should now work.

    Hi Moi, Well LayoutTools wasn't part of BT 2014 so it only gets installed for 2015. However it technically should still work in 2014, so really you just need to copy the LT_ scripts to the 2015 install and it should work. -cyrille

    No, not for any scene/object...If I close Maya down and restart, it works fine on a sphere. Next, I imported a simplistic character model, and it worked again. BUT, then I imported a more complex character model (about 5k quads), then I was able to reproduce the same error as above. Also, once I get the error once, it happens on any object/any scene until I restart Maya. I'll see if I can figure out more specifically what it is about the model it doesn't like, but that's as specific as I can get at the moment.

Autodesk Maya 2014/2015 Bonus Tools 15.0.0" The main message: Autodesk Maya 2014 Bonus Tools requires that Autodesk Maya 2014 be installed on your system prior to installation. I don't know if such a thing would be possible; but, if it is possible, that would offer a logical explanation. I'm going to dig around in the "Registry" and see if I can find something that might cause this kind of behavior.     Hi Russel, I'll contact you separately, but I believe you had the Maya Bonus Tools 2014 (only) installed and you uninstalled Maya 2014, then installed Maya 2015, and you are now trying to install the Maya Bonus Tools 2041/2015. In that context, the BT installer tries to remove the old BT version first and hence that message. Clearly a bug in the old installer since it should check on install only. The workaround is to add a key in the registry like this (copy and paste in a .reg file, and execute it) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Maya\2014\Setup\InstallPath] "MAYA_INSTALL_LOCATION"="C:\\Program Files\\Autodesk\\Maya2014\\" hope that helps,

    Hi Cyrille, I think that you are correct. I fount that Maya Bonus Tools 2014 was still on my computer when I attempted to install the new bonus tolls for 2014. I thought that I had uninstalled the 2014 version; but, I was wrong. I just posted my notes with the "Bonus Tools Maya 2015 when??" thread, in the Maya Forum. I, also, attached the correct log file (verbose) to that post. Now, I'll make the Registry changes,and see what happens. I'll let you know. If you want to put this in the "Knowledge Base Solutions," let me know if you would like for me to do anything. I can rewrite my notes, or whatever might help you.

    Hi, I'm having the exact same issue with the same situation (i.e. I had maya 2014 w/ bonus tools previously installed on this system, but no longer and now I cannot install the bonus tools with 2015). I'm not at the level of windows administration to understand the registry fix above. Can this file be modified so that average users can install it?

    Hi Michael, in case you cannot access the registry, try the following: msiexec /x {58D1D1B4-A26C-D097-D776-56758D4EFE2D} MAYA_INSTALL_LOCATION=c:\ this is set the internal Property to a value and the uninstall will work. Again my apologizes for the troubles on this, I made the mistake to enforce the installer checking the Maya presence. I removed that test in the latest 2014-2015 version, so it won't happen again.

    Hi, Unfortunately the answer is No - you need the 2015 version as binaries are not compatible between releases. MEL and Python scripts would normally continue to work unless there are changes is the way commands operate. The 2014-2015 installers works for both releases and just got published this morning.

    Hi there, on Linux there seems to be a problem using Ext/SP. The configuration file PackageContents.xml contains "SeriesMin" and "SeriesMax" attributes with value "2014". Maya Extension SP1 does not recognize this installation. When I remove the SeriesMax entry, it works fine. Seems that just the version number is different from plain '2014' in the Extension version.
