Custom random Plank Hatches

The Custom Plank Hatch Patterns for Autodesk® AutoCAD®.

General Usage Instructions

Used to designate random plank wood flooring. avoiding drawing random joints manually and saving time.

Run the Hatch command and select the provided custom Plank Hatch Patterns to insert.

Installation/Uninstallation

After downloading the 'Plank Hatches Install.exe' double click on the exe file to install it.

While installing browse the destination folder as described below. Remove \Plank Hatches from the end of the string.  

Where to save the PAT files. 

The custom PAT-files should be saved into the default Support folder (see below) that AutoCAD uses to find hatch patterns. Added PAT-files will cause hatches to be listed under the User Defined or Custom hatch menu within AutoCAD. 

  • Windows 10/11:  
  • C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD <version>\Rxx.x\<language>\Support 
  • Example (C:\Users\karlc\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2022\R24.1\enu\Support) 

Notes: 

  • Rxx.x stands for a specific AutoCAD release version: 
  • <Release version>:  R24.1: 2022; R24.0: 2021; R23.1: 2020; R23.0: 2019 
  • If you don't see the path above: The AppData and Application Data folders in the above paths are hidden folders 
  • In the Start menu search, type 'folder options' (Windows 7) or 'file explorer options' (Windows 10). 
  • In the Folder Options window, click the View tab. 
  • Select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives." 
  • Click OK. 

Click on Uninstall.exe from the destination folder.

Additional Information

Follow the below steps for Loading a custom PAT file.

Open AutoCAD 

  1. Set system variable HPDLGMODE to 1. 
  2. Enter HPDLGMODE into the command line. 
  3. Type 1 and press Enter 
  4. Enter command _HATCH. The "Hatch and Gradient"-dialog pops up. 
  5. In the selection list "Type" select "Custom".  
  6. In the field "Custom Pattern" click the 3 dots-symbol. 
  7. The dialog "Hatch Pattern Palette" pops up. Select in the left frame the specific PAT-file. Click Ok.
