comsSaveIt!

comsSaveIt!

Win32 and 64, English

Massimo Cicognani
This plug-in helps you to avoid to loose valid drawing changes. It saves unsaved DWG files and standard Autodesk® AutoCAD® autosave files (.sv$) in a local folder for later recovery (if necessary).

General Usage Instructions

The plug-in will load at startup (it’s very small and you won’t notice any delay) and present the main command and a few auxiliary commands:

comsSAVEIT

(NEW!) This command will open the main dialog box, which is essentially a configuration window where you can set, configure and activate all the automated features of comsSaveIt! app (see screenshot). For detailed usage, please see the integrated help file.

Commands

Ribbon/Toolbar Icon Command Command Description

COMSSAVEITHISTORY

This command asks for the maximum number of autosave files you want to preserve from deleting for each open drawing. If you specify 0, this function would be disabled and no files are kept. If you specify a number greater than zero, the autosave files will be preserved from automatic deletion and kept in your temporary folder.

COMSSAVEIT

This command opens the main dialog box used to set all the available parameters.

Installation/Uninstallation

The installer that ran when you downloaded this app/plug-in from Autodesk App Store will start installing the app/plug-in. OR, simply double-click the downloaded installer to install the app/plugin. You may need to restart the Autodesk product to activate the app/plug-in. To uninstall this plug-in, exit the Autodesk product if you are currently running it, simply rerun the installer, and select the "Uninstall" button. OR, click Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features (Windows 7/8.1/10) and uninstall as you would any other application from your system.

Additional Information

For comsSaveIt! saving folder, specify a local folder, it may be the same temporary folder you specify in AutoCAD settings for your temporary files and auto-save feature (see Options->Open and Save->Automatic Save). More: we strongly advise you to configure AutoCAD to use a single local folder for temporary files, plot logs, bak files, and auto-saved files. It will save you time and will avoid dispersing useless files over the network.

If you want to preserve the standard AutoCAD's autosave files (those with .sv$ extension), be sure that the autosaving feature is activated in the standard Options dialog (see Options->Open and Save->Automatic Save) and check that the number of minutes between saves fits your needs. Also, you may want to change the standard saving folders (through the same Options dialog, see folder settings on the 'Files' tab) to a more accessible location, since the standard-setting would use a folder inside the local user profile. It would be wise to use the same local folder for all of your temporary files and for the COMSSAVEITFLD setting.

Known Issues

  • To avoid useless savings, comsSaveIt! will save only drawings that have actually been modified. This usually works very well, but if something else will modify the drawing upon loading (i.e. some other plug-ins, or even Autodesk® AutoCAD® Mechanical when configured to adjust Mechanical Standards when opening a non-mechanical drawing), the drawing will result as modified even if you didn’t touch it. This will cause comsSaveIt! to save it even if not actually required.
  • Autosave History works only with the standard autosave extension .sv$
  • Icons designed for the light theme, however readable even on dark theme.
