The GILE_INCR command opens the Increment dialog.

In its left part, the dialog provides common controls for all tools.

  • The 'Value Type' frame is used to specify the incrementable value type (numeric, alphabetic, alphanumeric, hexadecimal or roman numerals).

  • The 'Parameters' frame provides text boxes to set the initial value, the increment value and some optional settings: a separator character, a prefix, a suffix.

  • The OK button launches an action according to the selected tab. The action repeats incrementing the value until the user  do not Esc, Enter or Space to get out of control.

In its right part, the dialog provides four tabs to specify the settings of each different actions.

  • The 'Attribute' tab is used to increment an attribute value at each block insertion. The user selects the block to insert and the attribute to increment, he also can set some block properties (global scale and rotation).

  • The 'Text' tab is used to create a text object which value is incremented at each insertion. The user can set some text properties (text style, justification, height and rotation).

  • The 'Selection' tab is used to edit existing Text, Mtext or Attribute objects by prefixing, suffixing or replacing them with an incremented value. The user chooses one or more entity type and selects the action to perform.

  • The 'Auto' tab allows to automatically increment a selection set of texts, mtexts or block attributes according to ascending or descending X and Y coordinates.

  • Thanks and suggestion
Beekee CZ | October 31, 2018 Verified Download (What's this?)

Hello Gile, best routine for this kind of job I've found. Complex, but still simple to use. Thank you!

One suggestion to consider to add. I would like to have an option to not specify a block name for numbering a selection of blocks - matching just by given an attrubute tag. Or possibly a blok name matching a mask given by wildcards.

TIA for considarition. Thinking of writing something simple by myself, but like the complexity of your routine and think that this might be useful to others as well.

  • Very good!
JOAQUIM LOPES | September 12, 2018 Verified Download (What's this?)

Thanks for this app! It''s very handy and saves a lot of time.

I'd like just to ask you for a small improvement. Can you please remove the limitation of not having any value type selected? Non having a value type defined allows to add constant prefixes ans suffixes to existent content of, for example, an attribute values in a block. Let's say we have thousands of block instances in a drawing with an code value filled in an attribute. And we'd like to add a prefix tag like "ID:" to the existing values. Not having the value type limitation it's easy to add it using Increment, otherwise it's very cumbersome to do it by hand, one by one...

Anyway, great app and thanks for sharing!

    Gilles Chanteau (Publisher) | September 18, 2018

You can simply add a prefix (and/or a suffix) in the Prefix (or Suffix) text box.

    JOAQUIM LOPES | September 18, 2018

That's true, but I'm trying to add prefixes/suffixes without using incrementing features. If I disable all the "Value Type" to achieve this, I get an error "None Value Type selected."... No having this limitation, I'd be able to add suffixes/prefixes alone which would be something very handy and helpful! Can you please disable this error message? Thanks

    Gilles Chanteau (Publisher) | September 19, 2018

I won't disable the "Value type" checking because this is required for the incrementing process which is the main purpose of this plugin. If you just want to add a prefixes to attribute or text values without incrementing the values, you should search for some routine doing this. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of them on the websites about customizing AutoCAD.

    Jithin K | November 26, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

Ur increment software isvery good ...But the main problem is that multi-leader with attribute is not supporting in that..ie I cannot include a mleader in it..If u could add mleader in increment software, that will be very much helpful. This will be a fantastic software after adding this..Pls update it soon..

  • Doesn't Work With Large Fonts
Robert Duncan | July 31, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

Very nice and useful command, but with high resolution monitors I must run my fonts at 150%. With large fonts not all of the program text fits on the screen, making the program impossible to use. Please add an option to re-size the program window or otherwise accommodate large fonts.

  • cool, but one thing missing
Thomas Bachmann | May 16, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

I had a similar tool years ago. There was one Function I miss now: Change more than one Numbers by slecting more Objects and doing a +3 command, so if You select 18,19, 20 getting 21, 22, 23 for example. Anything else is cool and very useful, thanks!

Bonjour, Tout d'abord toutes mes félicitations pour cette application très très utile et bien faite. Seul petit souci, depuis la mise à jour 2016 elle refuse de se lancer. Avez vous une idée ? Merci d'avance.

    Gilles Chanteau (Publisher) | April 17, 2015

Bonjour Nicolas, Essayez de désinstaller le plug-in via le panneau de configuration, puis de recharger et réinstaller Increment. N'hésitez pas à me contacter par mail si le problème persiste.

    Command: GILE_INCR Unknown command "GILE_INCR". Press F1 for help. :( :(

    Gilles Chanteau (Publisher) | April 14, 2014

Hi, This plug-in is only supported by AutoCAD (full) 2012 and later. Did you use it with AutoCAD 2012 or later ? I so, try to uninstal and reinstal the plugin.

    Iván Díaz Vargas | April 16, 2014

Hi, Chanteau, I am using AutoCAD 2014, 32bits, W7, I've already reinstalled the plugin. When I use the puglin for the first time there is no problem, because ask specify insertion point to increment, but when I close the plugin and try to use it again the pluging ask select object. I realize that sometimes it do not increment at the first time instead the intent second . Check Increment´s logo on the miniature bar . If you could fix it I will be so grateful.

Tool works really well. The only thing I would suggest is to add an option to allow existing items to be "auto" incremented in the order in which they are selected. Other than that, works great!

This is not the first attempt to automate numbering, there has been numerous attempts particularly with LISP (I did my own something like 20 years ago) but this implementation should satisfy many drafters and the author is known for his reaction time in case something is missing...
