Description

CADtoEarth™ for Autodesk® Revit® extends a family of add-ins that establish a bi-directional connection between CAD environments and Google Earth™, Google Maps™ or Cesium. The CADtoEarth add-in allows users to create personal accounts on the CADtoEarth web application and provides individual control over the visibility of uploaded data.

CADtoEarth for Autodesk Revit provides a wide range of capabilities, including an ability to:

• Import a section of surface from Google Earth or Cesium into a modeling session with an applied satellite imagery;

• Import a pre-drawn sketch from Google Earth, Google Maps, or Cesium into a modeling session;

• Get information about building layer from Google Earth or Cesium;

• Place the selected 3D structure on the imported surface within modeling session and then upload it back to Google Earth or Cesium;

• Upload the 3D structure directly from a modeling session onto Google Earth or Cesium;

  • not correct import
    Heinrich Boldt | December 22, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

    i try it more then ten times, the first pic of landscape is in every new import the same, i change the country, other details, every time the same. i never see the "picture" of Google-Earth, only the Topo of the first Pic in the plugin.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | January 18, 2016

    Hi Heinrich. The proper way to apply a satellite imagery on the imported Google Earth surface you can see in CADtoEarth For Autodesk Revit User's Guide/Chapter 2/Get Surface command. Link to download User's Guide: http://cadtoearth.amcbridge.com/cadtoearth_revit_manual_2.2.pdf . If above doesn't help and you want to discuss this issue more, then please write us a letter (support@amcbridge.com).

  • Great Idea, Tragic Functionality
    Dan Warren | October 15, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

    I have yet to sucessfully import a single building or topo. CADtoEarth pane user interface is not very intuitive and quite buggy (locks up when I click on the settings button). Received this error upon last import: The symbol is not active. Parameter name: symbol at Autodesk.Revit.Creation.ItemFactoryBase.NewFamilyInstance(XYZ location, FamilySymbol symbol, StructuralType structuralType) at CADtoEarth.AddIn.AddInCommands.GetEarthSurface.DrawMasses() at CADtoEarth.AddIn.AddInCommands.GetEarthSurface.Execute(ExternalCommandData revit, String& message, ElementSet elements) RevitAPI

    Pedro Pinheiro | October 16, 2015

    It is the same error i am getting. To get the topo surface, cancel the second load(building mass), and at least you get the topography. It would be great to solve the other issues i mentioned.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | November 19, 2015

    Hi Dan. Probable reason of issue is that CADtoEarth application or Google Earth Plug-in that you use was installed not properly. Please uninstall Google Earth Plug-in and CADtoEarth application from your computer. And then install the last version of plug-in and application. It is recommended to install CADtoEarth (as well as any application) under Windows user account with administrative permissions (without restrictions). If above doesn't help and you want to discuss this issue more then please write us a letter (support@amcbridge.com).

  • Issues With Revit 2016
    Pedro Pinheiro | October 15, 2015

    I am using Revit 2016 and having some troubles. I am getting Terrain surface, but always get an error importing the building masses. I am also unable to import the model to google earth. I do the import steps, it tells me that it will be imported to the determined coordinates, but i can´t see any of my model elements. I also think that it would be essential to have an import of the google earth image in 2d with the terrain, so we can locate ourselves, and also position the terrain in altitude according to level 0 being the sea level.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | November 19, 2015

    Hi Pedro. During uploading of your model please verify that no warnings or messages about triangles appears. Please notice limitation in 21845 items (triangles) is a limitation of Google application programming interface (API), it is on Google Earth side not on CADtoEarth side. Here, in CADtoEarth we can recognize if this limitation is exceeded, however we allow customer to proceed even when model doesn't correspond to Google limitation. Possible ways to establish necessary conditions it's make model more simple in Revit or during Export procedure in CADtoEarth application using representation filter. The proper way to upload model CADtoEarth For Autodesk Revit User's Guide/Chapter 4/Upload Model tab Link to download User's Guide: http://cadtoearth.amcbridge.com/cadtoearth_revit_manual_2.2.pdf . Please check position of your model relatively to coordinate system in Revit. With CADtoEarth application you can change altitude of chosen model in range from -965m to 965m (see attached image.png). It may be case when model load to Google Earth correctly but locate beneath the earth's surface and you can't see it. If above doesn't help, then, could you please send model file, your scenario and screenshots. If above doesn't help and you want to discuss this issue more then please write us a letter (support@amcbridge.com).

  • Need additional add in on Chrome
    Steve Saltsman | October 02, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

    So looks like you need to create an account to get the additional add in for your browser. Using facebook or LinkedIn won't get you there. Create an account, login, download the app for your browser, and install. Then the product will work. VERY EXCITED now that I got the add on in my chrome.

  • Visual Representation Filter Not Picking Up All My Model Elements?
    Neill Tupman | May 27, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

    I think this could be really useful... if only it would pick up all my model elements! I've followed the YouTube instruction video for importing GE data into my model, then exporting the model back out the CAD2Earth cloud server. Unfortunately I'm only see the "Walls" part of my model, nothing else. My very simple Revit model is contains 3 element categories; "Basic Walls", "Foundation Slabs" and "Site". Only the "Walls" elements show up when I export the model from Revit. During that export process a dialogue box appears, and the 'Visual Representation Filter' pane allows you to select which entities are exported. Every option is ticked, except the "Topography" one (understandable). However, I cannot see "Foundation Slabs", nor "Site" in this list. I can see How is this pane populated? Are these standard CAD To Earth categories? It can't be a complete list pulled from my model as I only see "Walls", and not "Foundation Slab" nor "Site". Please help

    my revit has the same problem as yours,only walls is permitted, no trees, no site.if you have a solution,please email me vhfcddr@gmail.com ,thank you very much.

  • Only available to user that installed it
    Sales Sub | March 18, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

    CadToEarth seems to show up as an Add-In in Revit only for the user that initially installed it. If another user logs in to the same machine and uses Revit, the CadToEarth menu does not show up for new user. How can we fix this? We need to be available to any user that uses Revit on the same machine. I have sent two emails to support already for this issue but have not heard any response.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | April 20, 2015

    Hi Sales. Currently, CADtoEarth add-in available only for the user that initially installed it. This is specific feature of installer provided by Autodesk Team. If you have ideas how to enhance our product more than please share your ideas and write us support@amcbridge.com

  • Accuracy Problem
    Carlo Ly | February 23, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

    The features seem to work but like others have said, the scale/accuracy seems to be off. Spent a lot of time trying to readjust toposurface to match, in the end I couldn't trust using it due to accuracy concerns.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | February 24, 2015

    Hi Carlo. Google Earth API provides satellite image that could have deviations that are differ from originals. We know about this limitation and reported this issue to our bug tracking system. To locate your model correctly you can use 'Drawing Mode' functionality, where specify borders (curves) of surface. See more information in 'Surface & Drawing tab' section (Chapter 4) in 'CADtoEarth For Autodesk Revit User's Guide': http://cadtoearth.amcbridge.com/cadtoearth_revit_manual_2.2.pdf

  • Not work
    István György Tar | February 16, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

    After loading the site (get surface) to my project the buildings are not there. What is the problem I tried it many times the same way like in the video. Revit2015 Win8

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | February 24, 2015

    Hi István. 1) One of reason of is the flag 'Save 3D building layer information' turned off in 'Surface & drawings' Tab (CADtoEarth Pane). 2) Also, the potential reason of the issue could be lack of information about imported buildings. Unfortunately, Google Earth API doesn’t provide access to their building models. That’s why CADtoEarth add-in uses Open Street Maps for getting information about characteristic of buildings. However, even Open Street Maps has limited information about buildings. Probably you met similar case. I would recommend you importing a building that has height information for sure, for example 'Statue of Liberty' (New York, Coordinates: 40°41'21 N 74°2'40 W) - here there is information about pedestal of statue and it can be imported. Test it. 3) Third reason could be setting (Visibility & graphics/Generic Models) in Revit that do not allow indicating buildings in project. If above doesn't help and you want to discuss this issue more then please write us a letter (support@amcbridge.com)

  • Does not work at all - Proxy server issue apparently
    Vianney Miti | October 31, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

    tried installing this to use on one of my projects but apparently can't be used if you use internet proxy servers. This rules out many people in any organisation that uses proxy servers. Have wasted plenty time trying to get this to work; they should make it clear at the outset stating limitations to the Add in.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | November 13, 2014

    Hello Vianney. Unfortunately, the current version of CADtoEarth plug-in doesn’t support proxy servers. If proxy server is in use then you can detect the issue with login process (login and reset password are impossible).

  • Doesnt work
    James Dixon | October 02, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

    1. please can you state that anything above 500m elevation will result in buildings not being exported? 2. Will not upload any model that has more than 20k parts? Virtually rules out even the slightest detail designed model Just doesnt work other than capturing topo data which is next to useless as anything less than a site topo isnt acceptable for detail design work.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | October 07, 2014

    Hi James. 1. Currently,function "Save 3D Building layer information" works below 500 meters height. We asked development for increasing this height. 2. Limitation in 21852 items (triangles) is on Google Earth API side and we can't configure it. CADtoEarth just checks number of items before exporting model and inform user if limitation is excided. In order to workaround this limitation you can decrease the amount of triangles making the model lighter. Note: for some CAD systems (Inventor, Revit, Rhino) you can select triangulation level (high, medium, low) in CADtoEarth export dialog. Your feedback is valuable for us. If you have ideas how to enhance our product more than please share your ideas and write us support@amcbridge.com

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | September 29, 2014

    Hi Marcel , current version of CADtoEarth can only import 20 houses at the same time located (fully or partially) in the current zoom state of given surface. About second part of your review please contact support@amcbridge.com with more detail descriptions and screenshots of issue.

    Just it didn´t took me the logitude properly, but I locate manualy , and ¡it was great!. Thanks.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | September 29, 2014

    Hello .... Problem with zero latitude occurs when used national format (e.g. Spanish) where "comma" (,) is set as decimal delimiter by default. The issue doesn't happen when "dot" (.) is decimal delimeter (e.g. English). To avoid the issue: Open Control Panel \ Region and Language \ Formats and at the Additional settings tab choose the dot (.) in the 'Decimal symbol'.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | May 12, 2014

  • Either it is disapppointing, or I need help to get what is needed.
    Luigi Coletta | February 14, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

    If you are able to contact me and discuss it...it would be great. I'm able to get the building info as long as I'm covering a small enough area and if the buildings are 20 or less... but all buildings come 50' tall, regardless of google earth's info, and no roads are coming in either.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | May 08, 2014

    In some cases the imported buildings have the same height (50 feet). It happens because Google API does not support getting buildings' height. CADtoEarth add-in uses Open Street Maps for getting information about height of buildings. However, in some cases even Open Street Maps has no proper information about height - and then, for such buildings, CADtoEarth application defines height as 50 feet. That is the reason why many imported buildings have the same height.

  • Easy to use, Half the features work
    Rosanne Siegal | October 23, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

    Able to upload my building, and download the site. However, no buildings are coming in with the site from google earth even though I see them in the Google Pane, and the Get Drawing feature isn't working. BUT the site itself is great.

    Amc Bridge Tech Support | May 08, 2014

    There is a restriction when importing buildings in CADtoEarth. The application can only import 20 houses at the same time located (fully or partially) in the current zoom state of given surface. Also the reason could be related with visibility options - in "Visibility/Graphics Overrides" dialog (It is located in "View" tab) enable all visibility filters and see what happens.
