BEAM is an interoperability software that connects McNeel's multipurpose 3D modeller Rhinoceros® with the AEC industry-standard Autodesk® Revit® and IFC 4.

General Usage Instructions

In Rhino, use the panel to assign the following properties to Rhino objects: Family, Subcategory, Material, Data.

In Rhino, families can be created manually or with Rhino blocks.
Select any number of Rhino objects and start typing in the panel a name in the family field or create a block in rhino named as the family.

Families can be assigned to different available categories. Use the panel to change a family category.

Families have a set of standard Parameters: Category, Comments, Mark, Keynote, Type Mark and Workset. Parameters can be Type or Instance.
Select one or more object that belongs to a family or a block to edit its parameters using the Panel. Use Q to edit in a table format. To add additional custom parameters to families use P on the panel. Each parameter will be populated in Revit according to its type. Numbers will require numbers and so on. Wrong parameters will not be populated. You can also import parameters from a shared parameters text file or using RAY.

In Rhino, select manually the objects or blocks to be exported or use F to quickly select multiple families. Press BEAM, BLOCS or IFC to start exporting.
In Revit launch BEAM, BLOCS or URSA and select the .beam exported from Rhino.

BEAM will import family instances with loose geometry save in the .beam.
BLOCS imports and place family instances from blocks using.
URSA can place adaptive components using curves and level based families using points.
RAY can export Revit content to Rhino

BEAM uses a cache file ( .beam ) based system to store and communicate data between the software. While using BEAM in Rhino and Revit you can set, reset and open the .beam directory. The default .beam directory is C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Beam\Temp
