Win64, EnglishGeneral Usage Instructions
Open your Revit project:
Navigate to the "Add-Ins" tab on the Revit ribbon.
Click on the "OBJ Export" button to launch the plugin.
Elements Selection:
Select the option “Visible In View” to export all visible elements in the active 3D view or “Select Elements” to select specific elements you wish to export, ensure that these elements are part of the active 3D view.
Choosing Export Options:
Define the exporting options by toggling the switches for the available export options.
Geometry Export (OBJ and MTL Files):
Select this option to export the geometrical information of the selected elements.
In the “Geometry Export Setup” button, you can configure the settings for exporting geometry.
· "File Export Mode" choose whether to export all selected elements into a single OBJ file or to create multiple OBJ files, one for each individual element.
· "Export Quality" select the desired resolution for exporting elements from the active 3D view. This determines the level of detail in the exported geometry.
· "Export Unit" choose the unit type (e.g., meters, centimeters, inches) for the geometry in the resulting OBJ file, ensuring consistency with your project requirements.
Parameter Export (JSON Files):
Choose this option to export a JSON file containing the values of selected parameters for the chosen elements.
In the "Parameter Export Setup" button, you can specify the parameters of the elements to be exported. In this section, two tree views are provided, organized hierarchically by category, family, and parameters.
· "Available Parameters" lists all available Revit element parameters in the active 3D view that can be selected for export.
· "Export Parameters" displays the parameters you have selected to be included in the parameter JSON file.
To add parameters to the export list, check the boxes next to the desired parameters in the "Available Parameters" tree view and click the “Add” button.
To add all parameters to the export list, just click the “Add All” button.
To remove parameters from the export list, check the boxes next to the parameters in the "Export Parameters" tree view and click the “Remove” button.
To remove all parameters to the export list, simply click the “Remove All” button.
Texture Export (PNG Files):
Select this option to export the material textures of the chosen elements from the active 3D view as PNG files, preserving the visual integrity of your models.
Export Process:
Click on the "Export" button to start the export process.
Specify the destination folder where you want the files to be saved.
Wait for the export process to complete.
Accessing Exported Files:
Navigate to the specified destination folder.
You will find the exported OBJ, MTL, JSON, and PNG files organized and ready for use.
Using Exported Data:
In Virtual Reality import the OBJ and MTL files into your VR application to visualize your Revit models in a virtual environment.
In 3D Modelling Software open the OBJ files in your preferred 3D modelling software for further editing and refinement.
For Data Analysis use the JSON files to analyse parameter data or integrate with other data-driven tools.
For Texturing apply the PNG texture files in your 3D models to maintain material appearances.
Tips and Best Practices:
Optimize Your Views: Ensure that your active 3D view is properly configured to display only the elements you want to export.
Check Element Selection: Double-check your selection before exporting to avoid missing any critical elements.
Save Work Regularly: Always save your Revit project before starting the export process to prevent any data loss.
Utilize Exported Data: Explore the different ways you can use the exported data to enhance your projects, whether in VR, 3D modeling, or data analysis.
With these instructions, you can efficiently use the 3D OBJ Exporter plugin to enhance your Revit project workflows and interoperability.
