Sequenza - 4D Construction Sequence Exporter

Sequenza - 4D Construction Sequence Exporter

Win64, English

AvantLeap
The Sequenza is an Autodesk® Revit® add-in that extracts construction sequence data from a Revit model and exports it as CSV files ready for 4D simulation in Navisworks TimeLiner and 3ds Max.

General Usage Instructions

1. Launch Autodesk Revit.

2. Open or create a Revit project containing building elements you want to include in a 4D construction simulation.

3. Go to the Add-Ins ribbon tab. Locate the Sequenza panel. Three buttons are available: Generate Files, Edit Sorting, and Setup Guide.

4. Click Generate Files.

5. In the Setup dialog, set the Project Start Date to the planned construction start date using the date picker.

6. Review the category list. The dialog shows all element categories present in the model. Check or uncheck categories to include or exclude them from the export. Use Select All or Deselect All to change the entire selection at once.

7. Click Generate simulation. Sequenza validates the model before writing any data.

8. If validation produces a critical error, the dialog will describe the issue. Resolve it and click Generate simulation again. Common critical errors include: no levels defined in the model, no processable elements found, and elements found only inside Revit groups (which must be ungrouped before running).

9. If validation produces warnings, a confirmation dialog will appear. Review the warning message and click Yes to proceed or No to cancel.

10. After successful generation, Sequenza writes five shared parameters to every element in the selected categories: SIMULATION, SIM_PART, LO_Level, LO_Building, and SIM_ORI. It then exports three CSV files and one MaxScript template to the output folder.

11. In the success dialog, review the element count and level resolution statistics. Click Open Output Folder to verify that the files are present.

12. To adjust the construction sequence order for any level-category group, click Edit Sorting.

13. In the Edit Sorting dialog, select a group from the Groups panel on the left. The sequence list on the right shows all elements in that group in their current order.

14. Open the Sorting Method dropdown and select the method that best matches the physical construction direction for that group. ProximityToORI sequences elements by distance from an origin anchor. XYZPrint, YXZPrint, ZXYPrint, and ZYXPrint sweep elements along two horizontal axes and one vertical axis.

15. To set an ORI anchor, select an element in the sequence list and click Set as ORI anchor, or click Pick from view and select the element directly in the Revit viewport.

16. Click Save group to apply the change to the selected group. Repeat for any other groups that require a different sequence order.

17. Click Apply and close. Sequenza writes the updated SIM_PART and SIM_ORI values to the model.

18. Run Generate Files again to regenerate the CSV files with the updated sequence order applied.

19. To import the output into Navisworks, click Setup Guide. The guide provides eight numbered steps covering NWC export, Navisworks file import, CSV data source attachment, column mapping, and task hierarchy build.

Notes:

- Elements placed inside Revit groups are excluded from all exports. Ungroup them before running Generate Files.

- Elements that cannot be resolved to a level are handled automatically using bounding-box and host-element resolution. The success dialog shows resolution rates.

- Run Generate Files again after any Edit Sorting session. The CSV files are not updated automatically when sorting changes are applied.

- Large models with more than 5,000 elements may take two to three minutes to generate. Keep the Revit window active during generation.

- After renaming levels in Revit, run Generate Files again to refresh the SIM_PART values with the new level names.

Commands

Ribbon/Toolbar Icon Command Command Description

Generate Files

Reads the active Revit project, validates the model, groups elements by level and category, writes five shared parameters (SIMULATION, SIM_PART, LO_Level, LO_Building, SIM_ORI) to all elements in the selected categories, and exports three files: Simulations Identification CSV, Simulations Components CSV, and a MaxScript Animation template. Also writes a SimulationConfig.json audit file. A setup dialog lets the user pick the Project Start Date and select which element categories to include.

Edit Sorting

Opens the sorting editor. Loads the saved configuration from Revit Extensible Storage, builds the level-category group list, and opens the SimulationSortingWindow. The user can change the sorting method per group (ElementId, ProximityToORI, XYZPrint, YXZPrint, ZXYPrint, ZYXPrint), designate an ORI anchor by picking from the list or directly from the Revit viewport, and preview a colour gradient in the live viewport showing the current sequence order. On OK, writes updated SIM_PART and SIM_ORI values to the model and persists the configuration. Generate Files must be re-run after to refresh the CSVs.

Setup Guide

Displays a read-only step-by-step guide covering NWC export from Revit, Navisworks file import, CSV data source attachment, column mapping, and task hierarchy build in Navisworks TimeLiner. No model changes.

Installation/Uninstallation

The installer that ran when you downloaded this app/plug-in from the Autodesk App Store will start installing the app/plug-in. Simply double-click the downloaded installer to install the app/plug-in. Make sure that Autodesk Revit is completely closed when running the installer.

To uninstall this plug-in, exit Autodesk Revit if currently running, then rerun the installer and select the "Uninstall" button. Alternatively, go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features (Windows 10/11) and uninstall as you would any other application.
