BUNITS
Automates the creation and detailing of rebar (reinforcement) quickly and accurately in beams, columns, and foundations. It is a simple and easy to use Autodesk® Revit® plugin.

General Usage Instructions

Barbox is a 3D reinforcement modelling and detailing tool. It has specialized tools that aid the modelling and drafting process of reinforcements for beams, columns and footings.

BEAM ELEVATION AND REINFORCEMENT DETAILING

This assumes that Beam View Settings and Beam Reinforcement Settings have been created to a customized profile of the user’s discretion, where no customized profile has been created and set as the current one, a default profile defined as Standard will be used.

  • Open a floor plan or a structural plan view.
  • Set the detail types of the beams in the view.  The Detail Type button will aid in doing this. This will be a reference in populating other beams of similar geometry and span with the reinforcement details to be created.
  • When beams and columns are not already numbered, the program automatically runs the numbering routine. In instances where scope boxes are defined to represent expansion joints, on the create section panel, select the Beam Section button.
  • Where the program detects beams as support, a prompt will alert you to select/deselect elements in the list of possible supports for the span in the Support Selection Dialog.
  • If no beams are detected as possible supports, an elevation view of the selected beam to be reinforced is created and Beam Detail Board Dialog is opened.
  • Now you can create reinforcement by inputting the parameters (quantity, diameters).

Note that the presentation of the detail is based on the view template assigned to the view in the Beam View settings.

COLUMN ELEVATION AND REINFORCEMENT DETAILING

This assumes that Column View Settings and Column Reinforcement Settings have been created to a customized profile of the user’s discretion. Where no customized profile has been created and set as the current one, a default profile defined as Standard will be used.

  • Open a floor plan or a structural plan view.
  • Set the detail types of the beams in the view.  The Detail Type button will aid in doing this. This will be a reference in populating other beams of similar geometry and span with the reinforcement details to be created.
  • On the Create Section panel, select the Column Section button and an elevation view of the selected column to be reinforced is created and the Column Detail Board Dialog is opened. The view generated is based on the Detailing Option (single Selection or Aligned Chained Selection).
  • Single selection only details the selected element, and the elevation view is limited to that element.
  • Aligned chained selection selects all other columns connected to the column and the view captures all the chained columns.
  • Now you can create reinforcement by inputting the parameters (quantity, diameters).

Note that the presentation of the detail is based on the view template assigned to the view in the Column View settings.

Populate

This tool works in two ways.

  • Option One
    • Set all detail types of elements in the model.
    • Create one complete reinforcing detail of a Type.
    • Open a plan view, click on the populate button and select the reinforced element (beam, columns or wall).  This will automatically populate all other elements with the set reinforcement details.
  • Option Two
    • Detail an Element with the required reinforcement.
    • Click on the Populate button.
    • Select the detail element and select the destination elements.

Settings:

Reinforcement Settings

  • This gives the user the possibility to define rebar settings which will be used throughout the model.
  • Assess the settings buttons from the dropdown on the Rebar panel (arrow pointing downwards).  This exposes three buttons (Beam Rebar Settings, Column Rebar Settings and Panel Rebar Settings.

Beam Rebar Settings

Click on the Beam Rebar Settings button to open the Beam Reinforcement Settings Dialog.

It has two tabs (General tab and the Beam Tab).

  • General tabThere are three major sections Under the general tab
    • General: Set the appropriate reinforcement types under the Reinforcement Section.  The reinforcement type is a list of reinforcement materials in the model you are working in.
    • Hosting option: Decide whether to host all reinforcements in the beam or top reinforcement of beams in the slab.
    • Rebar Numbering. Set the rebar numbering to either by sheet or by detail type.
  • Beam Tab:
    • Set Cover to reinforcement under the Reinforcement Cover Section
    • Longitudinal Reinforcement: Set the Rebar Detailing Detail Option. Do you want to use Lap Splicing or Cut to the face of support?
