DocumentViews, Selection Box Browser and Interactive View Range Control, are unique tools that enhance user experience in Autodesk® Revit®. Bonus tool - Apply View Parameters to View Templates.

General Usage Instructions

DocumentViews and View Naming Standards

DocumentViews manage their view name based on parameter rules that define a View Naming Standard.

Each DocumentView is identified by a unique incremental number.

They can be applied to plan views, sections, elevations, 3D Views and drafting views, except those that are part of a SelectionBox.

Create and manage multiple rule setups (View Naming Standards) using the available built-in, shared and project view parameters.

Define parameter values and their abbreviation for each rule setup.

Set the number of digits that DocumentViews use in view names for their unique identification number and view scale.

Select Views with common parameter values.

Set parameter values for multiple views and create new or rename existing DocumentViews.

DocumentViews use their parameter values and their abbreviation to automatically set and maintain consistent view names.

Modify DocumentView parameter values using either the Create/Rename dialog or the properties palette.

The Create/Rename DocumentViews dialog will limit the choice of parameter values to those set in the Abbreviation Settings dialog for each parameter.

Use this tool to build consistent view naming standards for your projects that follow the recommendations of the ISO 19650 standard.

The SelectionBox Browser

A View in Revit is an element that allows you to interact with and develop your design/model.

Usually, when you begin a new project, Revit creates default views, floor plans, and elevations south, north, east, and west that you use to start your design. As the project develops, you create more views to help with your project's design and documentation. You name the views and organize them in the project browser to be able to find and recall them.

However, very quickly you end up with a project browser populated with hundreds of views that require clearly defined and well-executed naming conventions.

The SelectionBox Browser offers an alternative approach.

  • As you develop your project you can select model elements in an area/volume of interest and create a SelectionBox.
  • This SelectionBox then becomes the identity of the area/volume of interest for the project's design exercise.
  • The SelectionBox creates and manages initial SelectionBox Design/Model Views and allows you to add more on the fly.
  • The SelectionBox Browser allows you to quickly find and focus on an isolated area/volume of your model and develop it further.
  • Subdivide your model into named areas/volumes of interest that are easier to work with.
  • Group SelectionBoxes that belong in the same wider volume/area/zone or design theme.

The Interactive View Range Control

Use this control to dynamically adjusts the view range of plans, sections, and elevations. Set the offset or the level from the project base point for top, cut, bottom and view depth planes of plan views. Set offsets or distances from the project base point for far, near clip planes and location of sections and elevations. Type in new values, drag areas with the mouse or increment values using the arrow keys on the keyboard, repeat buttons or the mouse wheel. Apply the settings automatically with each value change and watch the live update of view on the display.

Apply View Parameters to View Templates

Apply selected view parameters and visibility graphics to any number of predefined view templates.
