MEP Opening Marker
Win64, EnglishGeneral Usage Instructions
The MEP Opening Marker add-in automates the coordination process for builder's work openings by converting MEP intersections into parametric void elements.
Step 1: Configure Your Global Project Settings
-
Launch Autodesk® Revit® and open your project model.
-
Navigate to the custom ribbon tab and click the Settings button under the Commands panel.
-
In the setup window, define your global requirements:
-
Offset (mm): Set the clearance buffer around your MEP elements.
-
Void Type: Choose your default opening profile (e.g., Rectangular Void).
-
Metadata: Input your project tracking data (Discipline, Location, Revision, Status).
-
Step (mm): Set your dimension round-off increment (e.g., rounding to the nearest 10 mm).
-
IFC Parameters: Define your custom IFC shared parameters to ensure accurate data mapping during export.
-
-
Click Save to lock in your defaults.
Step 2: Detect and Mark Intersections
-
In your active Revit view, select the MEP elements (pipes, ducts, cable trays, etc.) that you want to check against structural hosts.
-
Click the Find & Mark Intersections button on the ribbon.
-
The tool automatically evaluates where the selected services clash with structural walls and floors, instantly generating your configured opening voids at those exact cross-sections.
Step 3: Clean Up Overlapping Geometry
-
If multiple closely spaced or parallel MEP runs have created chaotic, overlapping openings, select the two adjacent void elements.
-
Click the Combine Voids button on the ribbon.
-
The system dynamically generates a new, consolidated void that perfectly encompasses both original boundaries, automatically stripping out the old instances to clean up your model and eliminate duplicate warning flags.
Commands
| Ribbon/Toolbar Icon | Command | Command Description |
|---|---|---|
|
Find & Mark Intersections |
Analyzes your current selection of MEP elements (such as pipes, ducts, or cable trays) against intersecting walls and floors. The tool automatically identifies and flags every clash location, streamlining the coordination process for builder's work openings. |
|
Combine Voids |
Combines two overlapping or adjacent void elements into one. After selecting the voids and running the command, a new void is generated to encompass both volumes, and the original, separate void instances are automatically removed from the project to clean up the model. |
|
Settings |
Opens the MEP Opening Marker Settings menu. Use this to establish global parameters for generated openings, including clearance offsets, void shape types, discipline tracking, rounding increments (step), default host thicknesses, and custom IFC parameter mapping for accurate data export. |
Installation/Uninstallation
To Install:
-
Download the installer file from your distribution source (or the Autodesk App Store).
-
Ensure all instances of Autodesk® Revit® are completely closed.
-
Double-click the downloaded
.msior.exeinstaller file to begin setup. -
Follow the on-screen prompts.
-
Once complete, relaunch Revit. The new tools will appear under your designated panel on the ribbon menu.
To Uninstall:
-
Exit Autodesk® Revit® if it is actively running.
-
Open the Windows Control Panel and select Programs and Features.
-
Scroll through your list of installed software, select MEP Opening Marker, and click Uninstall.
-
(Optional Manual Cleanup): If custom text logs or backup configuration files were saved locally during use, you can manually delete any leftover user directories located within your Windows Documents or AppData folders if necessary.

1.4.0 |
We are excited to introduce the first official release of the MEP Opening Marker add-in for Revit. This version establishes the core framework for automating builder's work openings and coordination workflows between MEP services and structural elements. What's New: Intersection Detection (Execute): Select MEP elements and automatically identify and mark clashes with structural walls and floors. Combine Voids Tool: Clean up overlapping or adjacent void geometry by merging two separate voids into a single, comprehensive instance. Dynamic Settings Suite: Fully customize clearance offsets, geometric shapes (e.g., Rectangular Voids), and round-off steps (increments). BIM Metadata Tracking: Seamlessly embed project data including Discipline, Location, Revision Number, Revision Date, and Opening Status directly into the generated elements. OpenBIM Support: Includes custom IFC parameter mapping (such as BaseQuantities) to ensure data compliance during IFC exports. |
