WebGL-Publisher Export for Autodesk® Revit® is a plug-in for Revit Software which is used to export architecture models into a 3D environment for the Web.

General Usage Instructions

WebGL-Publisher Export for Revit uses the WebGL-Standard which is supported by various browsers on different platforms and operating systems.

The exported Revit models can be viewed in any WebGL enabled browser without additional software installation. A structured view of the web page enables the user to switch categories which are defined in the Revit model on and off.

To publish Revit models to the Web the following steps must be performed:

  • A model must be opened in Revit
  • The Add-Ins ->3DViewSectionBox command must be clicked in the additional modules toolbar
  • The target directory must be defined in the export dialog where the export should be written to.

The WPG export must be started in an active 3D View.

Before exporting it is recommended to adjust the section box in order to determine the boundaries.

The export includes:

  • Visible categories of the active 3D-View
  • Solids and geometric instances inside the section box

The export itself creates a wpm file (WebGL-Publisher Model) and an HTML file which displays the exported model.

In addition to that, all needed textures and JavaScript libraries are copied to the target directory.

The generated HTML file can then be opened directly in a WebGL enabled browser.

To publish the model on the Web, the content of the target directory must just be copied to a website.

Known Issues

Local file access: If you open the generated HTML file from the local file system, you may receive Security Errors (e.g. (NETWORK_ERR: XMLHttpRequest Exception 101).

The reason for that is, that some browsers do not allow the access of local textures or model files.

To solve this issue, you can load the HTML page from an HTTP:// URL instead of a file:// URL or you can configure your browser for local file access.

For Google Chrome you have to start Chrome with the following parameter: ...\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe -allow-file-access-from-files This setting allows the loading of local texture and model files.
