About This Version

Version 15.7.0, 4/12/2016

New Export Functionality:

- Append "(Type)" to all internal Revit type property sets, to avoid having multiple property sets with the same name assigned to the same IFC entity.
- Changed how the classification code is parsed so that classifications can have brackets and colons in them.
- "Extra Low" level of detail now applies to all faceted BRep geometry, allowing many more files to export without hitting the size limit.
- If a user- defined property set contains the same property name more than once, take the last non-empty value (don't duplicate the property name).
- Rebar elements can generate up to 1024 consistent GUIDs for individual IfcReinforcementBars, up from 256.
- (IFC4) Zones can now have a long name, set by the "ZoneLongName" shared parameter for non-MEP zones, and the "IfcLongName" parameter for MEP zones.

Export Bug Fixes:

- Don't create orphaned IfcStyledItems.
- Don't export invisible geometry in beams.
- Export DirectShapes of Walls category.
- Export elements with empty custom classification field values.
- Floors exported as IfcSlabs correctly report if they are load bearing or not, using either the "LoadBearing" shared parameter or the Structural built-in parameter, in that order.
- Improve performance in certain cases where we can't create a valid tessellation for a face.
- The "Use active view to generate geometry" option now works correctly.
- (IFC4) Correct the orientation of some IfcAdvancedBRep faces.

New Import Functionality:

- Import IfcProxy as Generic Models.

Import Bug Fixes:

- Fix how the IFC GUID is set for certain elements.
- Fix the orientation of some imported objects where part of the local placement needs to be calculated.
- (IFC4) Read in some missing relations caused by "IsDefinedBy" split into 3 inverse attributes.

  • Plugin mixes randomly the Family Category with the COBie Category
Gabor Kovacs | December 16, 2016 Verified Download (What's this?)

Hi We used the parameter mapping feature extensively in the 2014 version of the plugin without any problem. But in the recent weeks we converted to 2015 and experienced the following problem. We have a Revit shared parameter called 'Category' in each object. Its purpose is to store the classification information according to the COBie-requirements in the UK, so the typical value for this property is like 'Pr_30_59_24_16:Composite doorsets'. This value was exported correctly in 2014 when using parameter mapping text files for the export. Now, in 2015 the plugin randomly mixes it up with the actual Revit Family Category (like Doors, Generic Models, etc.) therefore the exported value is unpredictable, sometimes it is the correct 'Pr_30_59_24_16:Composite doorsets', sometimes it is actual family category, 'Doors' in the given example. Could you please help with that? Thanks Gabor

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | January 16, 2017

This is a change in the Revit 2015 API - we now expose the Revit Category with exactly the same name as your shared parameter, so I can imagine it would be confused about which is which. I'll pass this along but using a value like COBie.Category would be better.

  • Problems with force Units
Miquel Rodríguez | October 20, 2016 Verified Download (What's this?)

Hi everyone, i'm exporting a beam from revit to IFC and I have a parameter with force/area units. When I export it to IFC the value is completely differnt to revit, and I can't find out wich units are used. The given value does not match with any unit conversion. Any advise?

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | October 21, 2016

Please send us a sample file and we'll take a look.

Hi, Do you solve this problem? I have the same problem now.

  • How to export IFC to cloud storage?
    Minh Nguyen | December 09, 2015

Is there any way to customise this Add-in to export IFC to Stream to be able to upload it to Cloud storage? Or could I set the default file path to export without asking user to select the file location? Thanks.

  • Many more options than before
Mirko Jurčević | November 24, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

Great, finally we have a lot more options than with regular IFC export! Is there a way, with this add in or in general, to export wall/floor/roof layers volumes and areas? As I can see now, we can only get each layer thickness but not other geometrical data. Of course, there is a wall volume, but sometimes I need more detail (from scheduling and costing point of view).

  • Essential plug-in but issue with Worksets
    Stefan Boeykens | November 20, 2015

This plug-in is to me an essential install for Revit. It finally gives you more control over IFC export (and import). That said, I have a problem with worksets. The Workset for an element is exported into the Identity Data Property Set, which is fine for me. However, many objects have multiple Identity Data Property Sets and they don't have the same values: you can have either the actual Workset, but also a Family : : name or sometimes a generic Types name. This makes Workset filtering in Solibri useless.

    Mark Horrocks | March 06, 2017

Hi we are having this issue too, with 2015. Is there any possibility this will be looked at?

  • Description parameter is blank
William Coulter | October 14, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

Whenever I export to an IFC file, the description parameter is bank. I've tried several versions of the IFC export but none work. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | October 14, 2015

Hi William, if you want to add a description to a Revit element that shows up in the IFC file, add a shared parameter "IfcDescription" to your project. Does this work for you? To your follow-up comment: please send a sample file to Revit.Apps@autodesk.com where you have tried to do this and it didn't work. This is the way that it should populate the standard IFC field. If it doesn't work, it could either be a bug in our code or a mistake in how the field was set up or populated. Thanks, Angel

    William Coulter | October 15, 2015

Hey Angel, unfortunately, that doesn't work. I'm trying to populate the description field under the standard fields in the IFC file. I'm referring to the part where it lists the name, type and description. Thanks for the reply though.

  • Modified Room Tags export
    Bejoy Babu | August 12, 2015

I had modified the room tag by adding Department as Label in the Room tag family. The issue is while exporting from the Revit file to IFC I am just getting Room Name and Number only. The Department isnt being exported. Is there something I am missing or is it not possible? Please do help.

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | August 12, 2015

Hello, we don't export room tags - we export the rooms themselves. If you want to export the Department field, add it to the room itself instead of the room tag, and then it should show up in your IFC file.

  • export stuctural rebar Revit 2015 to ifc
Nathalie Balduk | May 26, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

Hello, We've been trying to export structural rebar to ifc (host is structural framing). When we use one level with option 'Building Story' the appearance of the rebar is at the correct position. However, most project we get from architects contain more 'building stories', what leads to wrong placement of the rebar in an ifc. We tried to set (structural) levels with 'story above', but the rebar is still at the wrong position. What can we do?

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | May 26, 2015

Hi Nathalie, if you could send us a sample file that shows the issue you are experiencing with an explanation of what you expect, we can take a look to see if there is a workaround or a fix needed. Send it to the revit.apps email address and we will receive it. Regards, Angel

  • IFC link (Scia Allplan orig) in Revit gives strange results
Paulus Present | April 22, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

Hey I got an IFC model from a structural engineer. The model was drawn in Scia Allplan and exported to IFC. The IFC model looks OK in the Solibri Model Viewer (see image attached) If I link the IFC model in Revit 2015 I get strange results however (see image attached): • A lot of the concrete floors disappear • Some concrete floors are extended way beyond their original boundary • Walls extend beyond the corners of the building I used the latest IFC module (update date 3/10/2015) It is a big problem for us that the IFC import doesn’t work as expected, although the structural engineer sent us an OK looking IFC file. Could anyone check what is going wrong and give me feedback? IFC and Revit file can be found here: http://we.tl/sGidyVor1h

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | April 23, 2015

Hi Paulus, I believe we had an email thread exchange on this issue. It looks like there are probably some issues with the file where it "looks OK" in a viewer that has a high tolerance for geometry, but less so in Revit that demands tighter geometry. We will take a look on our side to see what we can do to help heal some of the geometry issues reported in the log file.

  • Description needs updating
Duncan Lithgow | April 09, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

The description refers to http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/enu which was retired. I cannot find the most recent documentation of this alternate exporter. The same link is in the AddIns own documentation.

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | April 14, 2015

Hi Duncan, thanks for pointing this out. For now, use: http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2015/ENU/?guid=GUID-6708CFD6-0AD7-461F-ADE8-6527423EC895 This also points to a SourceForge site with a Wiki with more information. Note that there is an HTML help file that should be mostly up-to-date in the directory of the add-in. If you find that the information there is out of date, send us an email and we'll update it.

  • Don't understand what changed?
    Brett Hawk | April 02, 2015

I have tried in the past exporting to IFC but all that was exported were the floor plans, even the 3D view was gone. This does the same thing so it seems pointless.

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | April 03, 2015

Hi Brett, if you send us more detail at the revit.apps@autodesk.com email address, we can try to identify your issue. IFC doesn't export floor plans - it exports the 3D model. So either there is a bug in the export relative to your model, or perhaps we need to clarify what IFC is actually exporting and understand your workflow. Regards, Angel

  • Mechanical Parameter Issues
Kyle Younkin | March 18, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

We are trying to export mechanical units with their parameters intact. Such as Mechanical Flow, Electrical Loads, Temperature, etc. But these do not appear in the IFC when exported as 2X3 or 4. Also, the family and type of certain VAV units are missing, but appear in the IFC parameters box under type properties.

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | March 25, 2015

Hi Kyle, please send us a sample file at Revit.apps@autodesk.com that shows the issues you are having and we'll take a look.

  • unreliable
Yavor Kalushkov | March 04, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

Don's see the purpose of this app - the one that comes with revit does the same and it does it with errors -same as the "new" update - walls missing and probably something else we didn't bother investigating. Response from support was that it is probably because the wall has openings?? Still haven't heard back from them with solution. If I try the IFC4 format- it is asking me first to delete some stairs and railings and does not continue.

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | March 04, 2015

HI Yavor, we did receive your file and are going to be looking at it in depth to provide feedback. The purpose of this app is really just a "Service Pack" to the built-in IFC support - while it does add new functionality and bug fixes, like any service pack it does not state that it fixes all issues. As far as the initial feedback, it was intended to provide quick feedback into what we'd be looking at first - clearly, we wouldn't get very far if we didn't export any opening in a wall :) We will look into this further and we will get back to you with a solution. As far as the IFC4 issue, we'll look at that too. Thanks, Angel

  • Problems with IFC export and import
    Sergej von-Bagh | March 04, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

    1. IFC-file is exported in true north position instead of Project north even though it is set right in Location/Site settings. This is a problem in Navisworks and other BIM software. 2. IFC-file import in Revit rotates the terrain the same amount that is the difference with true north and Project north. In Navisworks this is not the case.

  • Importing IFC 2x3 Native Property Sets for project information
    Ekko Nap | January 16, 2015

    Keep up the good work! Gave it three stars because I would appreciate some more improvement on the import side. On import, I'm missing the Native Property Sets for project information. When I link in an IFC, I would like to know a little bit more then the file name, and be able to schedule it from the project information in the link. I'd like the option or default behaviour to transfer the entire File Name object from the IFC to the Revit file in separate shared parameters. Have a look at what's in there: FILE_NAME('','2015-01-15T08:48:27',(',''),(''),'The EXPRESS Data Manager Version 5.02.0100.07 : 28 Aug 2013','20140905_0730(x64) - Exporter - Alternate UI','');

  • ifcSpace export failure with "only elements visible in view" option
Dominique Payelleville | January 11, 2015 Verified Download (What's this?)

Hello Angel, with rvt2015, when I use the option "only elements visible in view" with "existing phase", rooms or spaces are not exported in ifcSpace while with "new construction" they are well exported. Of course, when all project is exported, all rooms and spaces are present in ifcSpace. Do you know why that ?

  • Revit taking extremely long to import IFC file
    Lorie Farina | January 07, 2015

I am using Revit 2015. I am trying to import an IFC files. Revit takes a really long time to try to open a 92,000 kb file. I left my computer run overnight and then and only then did it actually open the file. Otherwise Revit just "spins". Not sure what else to do?

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | January 07, 2015

Hi Lorie, are you using Link IFC or Open IFC? Open IFC is not yet updated with this toolkit, and is known to be slow when importing large files. Link IFC should be a lot faster, and may be all you need for your workflow. If Link IFC took overnight, please send a zipped version and we will examine it for possible speed improvements. Regards, Angel

  • Import IFC files
Wassim Alaaeedine | December 03, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

I am using Revit 2015- I have problem importing IFC files. I reinstall the IFC aplication and updated it. still not working. What else should i do? Please help. Thanks

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | December 04, 2014

Hi, Link IFC should work even without the IFC app – it should just work better with it. Can you try uninstalling the app and making sure it works then? If not, then there may be a problem with your Revit install. I’ve seen in the past where for some reason content wasn’t copied that IFC needs to create files. I’m also assuming that it isn’t working for even a trivial case – if it works for some cases but not others then maybe that’s a problem with our trying to read that IFC file and you can send it to us to investigate.

  • Non-shared components do not export
Chris Schoneveld | November 20, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

Hello Angel, When im trying to make an IFC, from our project with window and door families, solibri doesnt import the non shared components. When i switch these components to shared, solibri import the elements. is it possible that non shared components will be exported in the future..?? that would be great. Best Regards, Chris

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | December 04, 2014

Hi Chris, We'll give some thought about how to do this - I think it may need to be some sort of UI option, since I think sometimes you want separate components, and sometimes you don't. If you send us a sample file that shows shared vs non-shared elements and what you are hoping for to the Revit.apps alias we'll take a look. Thanks, Angel

  • Exporting linked files
Alessandro Napoli | November 04, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

Hi, it looks like when trying to export to IFC a revit files which includes multiple linked files, these ones do not get exported. Is there any way to overcome this?

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | November 04, 2014

Hi Alessandro, can you be more specific about which ones don't get exported? We now export linked files if you set the option in the UI, but we don't support exporting mirrored links. To the follow-up question below: no, we don't currently consolidate the output into one IFC file; there is some complexity in handling the issue. This is a good request, though, and we'll keep it in mind.

    Alessandro Napoli | November 04, 2014

Hi Angel I can export linked files as separate IFC files however I'm not allowed for instance to export everything (I'm talking about an architectural file which is made by several architectural linked files) an a unique IFC file. DO you think this would be possible?

    Luis Rodrigues | November 29, 2014

Hello Alessandro You probably should bind the links before exporting.

    Katrine Buur | November 05, 2015

Hi, I'm experiencing a related problem with a large, complex structure of linked models in a site model - binding all these links is not an option! Links are layed out by shared coordinates by the book, and even though the export (with "Export linked files as separate IFCs" ticked) of all files does happens, they are scattered to the wind and in no correlation with their shared coordinate, when pulled into solibri. Therefore I receive "widely scattered model" errors. The model does contain mirrored links, but the problem is the same, if I only export non-mirrored links. Please, is there a way to make all the IFC's know where they belong? Thanks! Ps. Export to a single IFC including links, would be awesome.

Is it possible to export the design options without changing the "primary" design option?, If it is possible, could someone tell me how and which settings i have to use when exporting to IFC?

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | November 04, 2014

Hi, we don't yet have the option to select an alternate design option, but we'll add that as a request!

  • Wrong Identity Data after Exporting
Bjorn Klarenbeek | October 09, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

After exporting to IFC and opening this file in Solibri, there are 2 Identity Data. When I look at some walls there are 2 totaly diverend types of data in the Identity Data? one is right en the other one is wrong. For example: if I select a concreet wall, and select identity data, all the data is correct. When I select the second Identity Data it shows the data of a completely divered wall? Is there a solution to this problem?

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | October 09, 2014

Hi Bjorn, if you send us a subset of your file that shows the problem to revit.apps@autodesk.com, we'll take a look at it and see if we can identify the issue. @Casper: I believe you are correct, based on our analysis and discussions with Bjorn. @Bjorn: Would you be willing to update your original comment to reflect the situation? Thanks.

    Casper Gullach | October 16, 2014

Hey Bjorn I think it is a bug in Solibri. If you update your Solibri to Version 9.1.22 it should be fixed.

    Bjorn Klarenbeek | October 22, 2014

Thank you Casper, I olso found out that the problem lies in Solibri, when i open and IFC in the 9.0.14 version it was oke. The 9.1.22 is not oke, same problem, but in the 9.1.23 and 9.1.24 the problem is fixed.

  • ifcSpace export failure
Erik Falck Jorgensen | August 21, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

If rooms is created in existing phase, they dont get exported... but why!? subscript: After solving my problem have I rasied the app to four stars. Getting the fifth star demands ajustmends, ie. respecting local setting, ie. layerlist should be individual.

    Angel Velez (Publisher) | August 22, 2014

I took a look at your file, and the answer is simple: the default phase to export in this file is not the "existing" phase. If you switch the export via the UI to export "existing" phase instead, the spaces are exported. Note that IFC2x3 doesn't have built-in phasing - that means that if we exported all phases, there would be duplication of elements and no consistent way of determining which went in which phase. IFC4 should at least partially correct that, when it gets MVDs.

    Erik Falck Jorgensen | August 22, 2014

Thanks Angel, it was almost to easy :-) You do not always see the clear solutions that lies just ahead of you :-)
