Description

This application will enhance Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2016 in several key areas and provide improved functionality. Please refer to each section below for additional details.

 

Local Coordinate System (LCS) support for Nonlinear Nastran solves

 

This utility will export the necessary CORD2C, CORD2S, CORD2R cards for Static Stress with Nonlinear Material Models analyses (SOL106), which were not exported from previous releases.

 

Contact Pressure Results

 

This utility will read an FNO file created by Autodesk Nastran and create a CPO file, which will contain contact surface element grid point results

Upon installing this utility, new menu items will appear in both the classic and ribbon-style user-interface (for models containing contact and analyzed using the Autodesk Nastran solver).

  • For the classic user interface, these menu items appear within the Results environment in a new bump-out menu named “Contact” under the “Results” pull-down menu.
  • For the ribbon style interface, these menu items appear in the “Contact” panel of the “Results Contours” tab.

Note:  For both the classic and ribbon-style user interface, the new contact results are also available from a context menu. To see this context menu, activate the “None” results option:

    • For the ribbon-style user interface:  Activate the “None” option in the “Other Results” panel of the “Results Contours” tab.
    • For the classic user interface:  Activate the “None” option in the “Results” pull-down menu.

 

Then, right-click in the model canvas (with nothing selected) and choose the desired result from the “Results: Contact” bump-out menu.

 

Ability to control the Maximum Activation Distance (MAXAD)

 

In the 2016 release of Simulation Mechanical, the MAXAD values written into the Nastran Surface Contact Parameters (BSCONP) cards had a large positive value to ensure that all gap contact was honored regardless of distance. This value generated a large number of contact calculations, which impacted the solve performance. This utility will export the MAXAD based on the user-specified contact tolerance or contact distance.

  • For Static Stress with Linear Material Models, the utility will export the MAXAD based on the user-specified contact tolerance. The following prerequisites exist:
    • You must enable smart bonded contact. Do this in the Analysis Parameters dialog box, within the Bonded Contact section of the “Contact” tab
    • You must specify “Bonded” or “Welded” contact.

The default contact specification is represented using CONTACTGENERATE cards. Explicit contact pairs are represented using BSCONP cards. In either case, specify an “Absolute Size” tolerance value within the “Contact Options” dialog box.

  • For Static Stress with Nonlinear Material Models, the utility will export the MAXAD based on the user input within the Controls and Parameters for Contact Pair dialog box.
    • For “Tied Contact”, the utility will export the MAXAD based on the user input within the “Tied contact tolerance” field.
    • For all other contact methods, the utility will export the MAXAD based on the user input within the “Contact Distance” field.

 

Results inquiry for forces and moments

You can inquire on the X, Y, and Z components of all reaction forces and moments, internal forces and moments, applied forces and moments, or element forces and moments collectively within a new dialog box. The information is presented in a single (split-style) table. You can export the data in this table as a CSV file and save it directly to the built-in HTML Report. You can also extract the data via the copy/paste actions (CTRL+C, CTRL+V) into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

The top portion of the table displays the raw data. The bottom portion displays some basic statistics such as the maximum result (Max), the minimum result (Min), and the sum of the individual node or element results (Sum).

  1. The ribbon commands for the Element Force and Moment result and for Applied, Internal, and Reaction Force and Moment results have been combined in the ribbon under a single bump-out menu (“Results Inquire: Inquire: Other Results”). In the previous release, this bump-out item was named “Reactions,” and there was a separate ribbon button for the Element Force and Moment results.
  2. An issue where Force and Moment result buttons did not function for nonlinear analyses has been fixed.
  3. You can now select beam members and use them as the basis of force and moment results inquiries.
  4. In the output table for the force and moment results, the separator between the raw data and max/min/summary portion of the table has been enhanced for better visibility.
  5. Upon installing this utility, a new menu item will appear in the ribbon-style user interface that displays the contact pressure results. This menu items appear in the “Contact” panel of the “Results Contours” tab.
