General Usage Instructions

Using the Application with Autodesk Vault

Once the application is installed and launched, follow these steps to begin working with your data:

  1. Log in to Autodesk Vault
Upon launching the application, you will be prompted to authenticate with your Autodesk Vault credentials. Ensure you have the necessary permissions to access and modify metadata within the Vault.
  2. Load Your CSV File
Use the file selection dialog to browse and select the CSV file containing the metadata or file references you wish to process. The application supports standard CSV formatting.
  3. Map the FileName Column and Properties
After loading the CSV, identify the column that contains the file names. Then, map the relevant metadata properties from the CSV to the corresponding Vault properties. This step ensures accurate association between your data and Vault items.
  4. Perform a Search
Click the Search button to initiate a lookup in Vault based on the mapped file names. The application will query Vault and return matching records.
  5. Review the Search Results
Examine the returned results to verify that the correct files have been identified. You can scroll through the list and inspect metadata before proceeding.
  6. Apply Metadata Changes
Once satisfied with the results, click the Change button to apply the metadata updates to the selected Vault items. The application will push the mapped properties into Vault, updating the records accordingly.

Installation/Uninstallation

Installation and Uninstallation Instructions for Windows 11

Installation:

This application is designed to operate as a standalone product and should be installed under the Program Files directory on Windows 11 systems. All necessary dependencies and resources are bundled with the installer, ensuring no external components are required post-installation.

While integration as a Vault plugin was considered, it introduces unnecessary complexity for this use case. Therefore, the standalone deployment is preferred for simplicity, maintainability, and ease of use. However, we remain open to feedback or suggestions regarding alternative deployment strategies if they offer clear benefits.

Uninstallation:

To remove the application from your system:

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to Programs > Programs and Features.
  3. Locate the application in the list.
  4. Right-click and select Uninstall, or click Uninstall from the top menu.

This process is consistent with standard Windows application removal procedures and applies to Windows 8.1, 10, and 11.

Known Issues

Important Note on Property Mapping

When using the tool to apply metadata changes in Autodesk® Vault, please be aware of the following limitation:

Mapped Properties Are Not Supported

If you select a User Defined Property (UDP) that is already mapped to a Vault system property, the tool will not be able to apply changes. This is a known limitation. For the tool to function correctly, you must use unmapped UDPs.

Unfortunately, at this time, the tool does not provide a way to filter or visually distinguish between mapped and unmapped properties. As a workaround, we recommend creating dedicated unmapped UDPs specifically for use with this toolset. This ensures compatibility and avoids unexpected behavior during metadata updates.

We understand this may introduce some extra setup steps, and we appreciate your understanding as we work toward improving future versions of the tool
