Cleans/Purges key-plans for degenerate geometry, alignment errors, inspects all line intersections and makes a fair copy of draft drawing.

While drafting architectural/structural key plans, wall/beam lines are placed in a specific layer, color and/or line type. However, drafting standards varies from person to person, organization to organization. As a result, following types of errors are common on architectural key plans:

  1. Stretch, scale and other Modify commands might leave unnecessary lines of small length.

  2. Copy, move and other Modify commands might leave overlapping collinear lines. Sometimes, these lines may not be strictly collinear – but nearby or slightly misaligned.

  3. Due to snapping errors, end points of walls may not intersect each other accurately.

  4. Wall lines may intersect window/door jambs, column, plinth lines, railing lines etc. All wall lines should have an even number of intersections. Omission or commission of jambs/outlines, results in an odd number of intersections on wall lines.

  5. Some lines which do not represent key plan walls may be wrongly placed in the same layer, color or line-type as walls.

  6. Whereas walls are drawn as two parallel walls, the ends of such wall lines may be abrupt, that is without cross connection.

  7. Lines and polylines may be mixed up within same key plan.

Traze attempts to address all the above errors jointly and severally to purge and clean your key plan, using following Geometry correction routines:

1.      EXPLODE ALL:

  • Explodes polylines mixed with wall lines in your key plan.

2.      KILL ZERO LENGTH:

  • Moves lines of very small length (governed by min- wall- thick) away from your key plan.

3.      OVERKILL:

  • Eliminates duplicate overlapping collinear lines including duplicates which are misaligned and/or laterally separated. Note that this works much like AutoCAD® overkill, but also considers misalignment and lateral fuzz.

4.      NON-WALL LINES:

  • Moves lines that do not appear to be walls away from current selection. From the lines you have selected, Traze moves away lines which do not have an accompanying parallel line.

5.      WALL ENDS:

  • Connects wall line ends which are not connected to any other lines.

6.      END JOINTS:

  • Performs extend/trim/fillet/chamfer on line endpoints, if end-to-end connections between lines are inaccurate.

7.      ODD JOINTS:

  • Highlights lines with odd number of intersections, for manual inspection, after iterative auto-correction. Traze highlights parallel lines with missing inter-connection or incorrect start or end points with increased line-weight. Inspect and correct these lines manually.

8.      BREAK @ ALTERNATE INTERSECTIONS:

  • Breaks selected wall lines at intersections with other wall lines, window/door jamb lines and column outlines.
  • The alternate broken lines [sill lines of windows/doors, outline of columns and facade lines such as veranda /plinth lines, glazing/rail lines] shall be moved away from key plan.
  • Jamb lines remain in key plan with same properties as walls.

9.      BREAK ONLY @ WALL INTERSECTIONS:

  • Breaks selected wall lines at intersections with other wall lines only.
  • Among broken lines, erratic connections between walls and facade lines are moved away from key plan.
  • Jamb lines remain as cross-connections between wall lines.

10.    BREAK @ ALL INTERSECTIONS:

  • Breaks selected wall lines at all intersections with other wall lines, window/door jamb lines and column outlines.
  • But no broken line (except erratic connections between walls) is moved away from key plan – all lines left as they are.
  • Facade lines remain along with wall lines and jamb lines exist as cross connections.

11.    JOIN AS POLYLINE:

  • Joins lines into polylines, after breaking them
  • Difference between AutoCAD PEDIT Join and Traze Join is that the latter traces the polyline along the maximum included angle as a guiding criterion.
