It has long been a frustration that it is not possible to export the parameters of the pipe supports in Autodesk® AutoCAD® Plant 3D™.
Even if support is stretched to become two times longer than the original instance, for Plant 3D the two supports remained identical.
This will change from now on.
- The parameters can be exported to a CSV file.
- The parameters can be added to the supports’ description, this way they can be shown in the Report Creator or on the Isometric / Ortho drawings’ Bill Of Materials
- These parameters can also be added to the supports’ tags with an automatically generated running number as well!
Additionally, these naming conventions can be customized. For instance, you can generate a list of supports based on a single parameter or include all available parameters. Furthermore, you can choose which parameters to incorporate into the support descriptions. This eliminates the need for manual measurement and entry of these values.

Smart Support helps with:
1. Reducing the amount of manual editing of Isometrics
2. Adding reliability of actual dimensions vs manual editing
3. Increasing confidence for the checkers
4. Lowering the chances of errors
5. Providing MTO’s with dimensions
Smart Support:
· Appends the Long Description (Size), which is used to provide the pipe support contractor shoe length and height, Rod lengths etc. for example: if you have a pipe support shoe, the designer must manually enter the length and height on the isometric. Smart Support will auto-generate this information.
· Reference section in the AutoCAD properties, is used to populate information within the content of the isometric, for example: if you have a rod hanger support, the designer must manually enter the Rod Length and Bottom of Steel elevation. Smart Support will auto-generate this information.
This addon has been incredibly helpful in allowing us to access and report on parameter properties. Additionally, Tamas' support has been prompt and professional. We're very pleased with this experience and look forward to continued success with this tool.
