The IFC for Autodesk® Revit® 2018 contains up-to-date improvements on the default IFC import and export capabilities of Revit contributed by Autodesk and our Open Source contributors.
While this app is not necessary for IFC support, it is recommended that users that depend on the quality of their IFC files download this app and keep it up-to-date, as new enhancements and defect fixes are added, for more information on IFC, please visit the building SMART website ( buildingsmart.org) or the Revit wiki (help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-6708CFD6-0AD7-461F-ADE8-6527423EC895).

- Allow creating exportable formulas in Revit parameters.
- Better support for Illuminance and Volume parameter types.
- Reduce the facet count for some element geometries.
- Support export of fabrication parts.

- Export "NetVolume" and "NetSideArea" quantities instead of "Gross" ones.
- Export PredefinedType/ShapeType for ramps, stairs and vibration isolators.
- Fix export of some multi-story stairs.
- Fix material assignment for some elements.
- Fix missing predefined type for some elements.
- Fix missing profile names for some beams.
- Fix slope calculations for some elements.
- More fixes to correct "unexpected errors" of certain entity types.
- Restore calculations for "concealed" and "is external" properties.
- Restore proper mapping of Revit Grids to IfcGrids.
- Restore proper GUID for some door, windows, and property sets.
- Restore remapping of some deprecated IFC2x3 and IFC4 entitites.
- Restore support for parameter mapping files.
- Restore support for provisions for voids in IFC2x3.
- Restore support for IfcSpace "ElevationWithFlooring" attribute.
- Restore tag for IfcCurtainWallType.
- Restore tessellation level of detail for coarse tessellations.
- Restore use of built-in parameters for populating some IFC parameters.
- (Pre-IFC4) Stop converting space heater types to electric heater types.
- (IFC4) Properly export some trimmed edges in advanced BReps.
- (IFC4) Limit distribution ports to IfcDistributionElements only.
New Import Functionality:
- (IFC4) Support IfcCartesianPointList2D, IfcIndexedPolyCurve
Import Bug Fixes:
- Accept structural items that have an undefined LoadBearing parameter.
- Better processing of slightly non-planar faces.
- Better processing of some sweeps that have unnecessary start and end parameters.
- Correct orientation of some objects on import with incomplete placement information.
- Make sure all created schedules and parameters have unique names.
- Improve import of some circular extruded geometries whose outer profile curves are slightly disjointed.
- Improve use of shared geometry across different type elements.
- Properly cut some geometry when the bounded curve for the half-space solid is missing.
- (IFC4) Better import of some geometry with NURBS curve-based edges.
When i import a IFC file in naviswork and i select a object i have the same name of a property texte define type or instance.
example :
name parameter "number of door" group parameter under "text" and define to instance
name parameter "Equipements" group parameter under "text" and define to type
In naviworks in the property windows i have 2 tabs name "text" so i can't know which are type or instance.
In Revit 2019 when i export a IFC file i have this difference.
name "text" for instance parameters and name "texte(type)" for type parameters
Can you fixed this problem please for revit 2018 please.
thank you for your answer
No dialog pop up after clicking Export > IFC. Hanged Revit with inability to close Revit or select anything. Used to work fine but now failed terribly.
Revit 8.3.3.18
When trying to export a specific phase, it exports all newly created phases in stead of only the one chosen. Can this be fixed?
Can You fix need to swich project base point anytime?
Recently installed V1.4.0, we use Revit 2018.3.2 So everything is up-to-date.
When I open the Export IFC window, I can't modify any settings, the window does not open. And when I click on "Export", the window closes but nothing happens.
Well that sounds pretty bad. It really sounds like a bad installation of the addin. Can you try to uninstall and reinstall it? If that still doesn't work, please send me a journal of a Revit session where you have this failure. It's like this: Open Revit, draw a wall, try to export IFC, fail, close Revit. Then go to C:\\Users\\[YourUserName]\\AppData\\Local\\Autodesk\\Revit\\Autodesk Revit 2018\\Journals and find the newest journal.xxxx.txt file. Email that to me -it should show lots of information we can use to figure it out.
does not transmit the rotation of common coordinates
Just out of curiosity, but how is this App better than the IFC Export aspect that is already within Revit? Thank you in advance.
Hi Dan, if you look at the "About this Version" above, those are the release notes for the improvements from the "out of the box" version. In general, you can see these updates as bug fixes and improvements - it isn't a completely different exporter, we just make continuous improvements and update them here.
Hi,
After this update the Modify Setup does not work anymore and Revit does not make any IFC export. Nothing happens when you click "Export" ??
we can now choose the origin of the exported file, thumbs up!
When I use my settings file I am unable to export to IFC. It works if I use default settings or if I uninstall IFC 2018 plugin. Here is my settings file - http://www.bipkoder.se/resources/BIP_EL_JBack_2018.zip
We've identified the issue: we have the wrong label for ElectricVoltage in our code. We are going to fix this. In the meantime, if you remove that one line, it should work for you.
I have correct the exportfile for BIP now, Change ElectricVoltage to ElectricalVoltage in the IFC export textfile above in line 78.
Is there a way to keep me notified about updates without using the Desktop App. We are using SCCM and the Desktop App will not be used. Thanks a lot
We currently send emails that you can opt out of receiving when there is a new version.
This version fixed export geometry in active view problem.
Dear Autodesk We as regular IFC users, require absolute clarity from Autodesk with regard to exactly how this plugin is exporting the IFC file coordinates. There are no clear answers on any of the Revit Help pages or this exports help files. From what I can establish, the IFC export uses the Survey point origin as the IFC export origin in an X, Y,Z, direction, and the internal origin and its rotation relationship to the Survey point is recorded in the IFCSite Local Placement (IfcLocalPlacement) information. Can you confirm is the above is correct? How does this relate to the IFCSITE elevation export setting? We request Autodesk please add this critical workflow information to the Autodesk Revit help files. We also request in the Export function: Users have the choice so as they can export the IFC file coordinates to the Survey point, Project Base Point or Internal Origin. This would also include what origin point is used for the IfcLocalPlacement. Other applications now have IFC origin options. This is vital for effective Site and Building Coordination. The project team can establish the workflow that suits them best. On IFC Import into Revit, we also need to have options on which origin point we use to import (Survey point, Project Base point or Internal Origin as wall as the IFC Absolute origin or IFC Local Placement). Try importing a Civil In-ground services file to MGA (Map Grid of Australia – Northing’s of 5,600km away) and see what kinds of results you get. Currently, we have to do other workarounds using other plugins and applications to resolve this issue collaboration issue. Building designers need to be able to work with Civil consultants using real world coordiantes. I look forward to your response. Thanks and kind regards Brian Renehan
