Description
Drawing Porter is a batch print and export tool for Autodesk® Inventor®. What makes it unique is that its Assembly focussed or based and that it will determine which drawings and parts are relevant based on the single assembly file you select.
So if you select your GA for instance, the app will automatically know which parts and drawings forms part of that design. You can then batch print or export your drawings and/or models to various formats including PDF. DWG, SAT and STEP.
Note: This app uses custom installer and not the Autodesk App Store standard installer.
A propos de cette version

Can update drawings before processing
I really love the fact that the App automatically picks up what page size and orientation the idw is even if you do different sizes and orientations at the same time. Dankie Pieter!
Dankie Hendrik! I am glad the tool comes in handy.
This batch app saves hours of my time. Developer, Thank you!!
Good to hear. Thanks for the feedback.
I've just used this on a couple of top level assemblies and it worked flawlessly for printing out a folder of pdf's, ready for combining. My God, this is going to save me so much time - thank you very, very much for your time and effort !
Hi I am glad it can help you. Thanks for your review!
Does exactly what it says it does! Thank you very much!
Its only a pleasure! :)
I love this app! When will Inventor 2018 be supported?
Hi Paul. Thanks for the kind words and review! The new version can be downloaded here for now: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=27102124B84C7E34!3357&authkey=!AFJrJN-BG_VOL5c&ithint=folder%2c I will also publish it to the Autodesk App store later today. Pieter
I used this app and I think it is very well builded. I think it as also a lot of potential that can be implemented. Good job!
Hi Alex, Thanks for the kind words. It's much appreciated. If you have some ideas for new functionality please email them to me. My email address is above in the app details. This offer actually goes to anyone. We are in the process of rewriting the app and would like to hear from the users. Thanks
Works great and after the top service this is also an time saver to keep :)
Thanks for the kind words Pascal!
This program is great, some quirks i found with up-updated drawings, but that was a simple find/solve. Thank you, how can I support you?
Thanks for the kind words and good review. It's much appreciated. We are in the process of rewriting Drawing Porter to include all the features everyone has requested. To support us give us some feedback via email (ivtools@mgfx.co.za) to make the application even better. Cheers!
The only problem for me low resolution icon :) It looks pixelated on darker backgrounds. I will create a svg version of your aps's icon and will convert it ico to replace shortcut's icon.
Hi thanks for the feedback. Yes the whole app is actually a bit dated and we are actually in the process of rewriting it from scratch. The icon will also be updated.
Hi I downloaded Drawing Porter today and it is a very good help for me but there are some things I wonder about. 1. When I write to PDF so will my IDW files closing in Inventor. Is there any setting? I open files from C: 2. Can I open files from the Vault with Drawing Porter I use Inventor/Vault 2017 Best Regards from Lennart
Hi we are in the process of rewriting the app from scratch. We have made note of your suggestions and will incorporate them into the new version.
Hey there, when i was working on previous system (win7) it was working great, but now, on W10 it only showing error (cannot export to step/pdf/dwg). Do you have any idea why is that ?
Hi, I sent you an email. Lets chat about the error offline ok.
After the update the is no more problem with exporting. Yet i have a question. Is there an option to change default STEP filename ? I usually get things such as "<modelname> _ [1]" how can i get rid of the brackets and one ? Big Thanks :)
As John Hygelund in 2014 wrote, I'm missing DXF export too. Most of my manufacturers can't read DWG files but DXF. In 2014 you put this on your list. Any idea when you can include it? Greets Burkhard
Hi is this for exporting sheet metal flat pattern information? If so we have a different product which handles that called DXF Exporter. Let me know ok.
Hi Pieter, thank you for your reply. I need DXF export for some manufacturers, working for my customer. They get the drawings of all parts and assemblies to be manufactured in DXF, as they do not have a DWG reader to extract the geometric data. Normally I never export flat pattern DXF data. Burkhard
This is a great idea and concept and seems to work fairly well. Printing is my issue. Print and Export Options dialog box has no done button...cannot print 11x17 drawings even when Inventor settings are 11x17.
Hi yes we are aware of this issue and will be releasing a new version shortly which will cater for this. A workaround is to set your Windows screen scaling back to the default 100%. The buttons will show up as normal then.
Is there a setting that will allow for all sheets in a multi sheet drawing to be exported?
Very nice and handy program. It does a lot, also closes your active Inventor session! It doesn't create .step files from assembly's. And doesn't give the .step file the right name if it's a derived/mirrored part.
Hi Pim, Thanks for the reply. We appreciate constructive comments like this and we will look into the issue of .step file names. As for not creating step files for the assembly files, that is an intended feature but we will look at adding an option to also include assembly files. Thanks.
We have had some issues with the app not finding existing drawings. This usually occurs for drawings that are fed by iParts/iAssemblies. Any idea why this is happening? Also, we would like the option to extract the part# from the idw and use it to name the printed copy. Any chance of that happening? Thanks for the all of the good work!
Hi Stephen, Thanks for the feedback. We have added this to our list of requests and will look into it.
Great program. Has helped me on my projects when batch exporting all drawings to PDF. I suggest making the "log" of drawings created available as a text/excel file (or atleast possible to copy paste manually into one). This will ease the creation of project "drawing lists".
Hi Christofer, Thanks for the feedback. That feature has already been suggested by another user and we will integrate it soon. Check back for updates in the next few weeks.
great app for free!
The add-in does exactly what it says it does. My only problem is that our file structure is not optimal for the way this add-in searches for files, and it takes upwards of 6 minutes to find 12 drawings (in a specific case)! Other than that, I love it.
Needed a way to batch plot (export) several hundred .idws to .pdf. Worked well for my purposes.
The only option missing on this is the ability to add a suffix or prefix to the file name on the PDFs.
This is almost exactly what I've been looking for. I was able to export both pdf and stp files from a large assembly, although not in the same export. I had to do 2d and 3d in a separate step. I also need to export .dxf rather than .dwg and .igs rather then .stp. Any change those options can be included?? Very nice app! Thank you.
Hi John, Thanks for the review. I have added your request to the list of future improvements.
Print to PDF works fine. But printing to DWG makes Inventor to crash. I'm using Inventor 2015 on Windows 7 win64.
Why doesn't this work for Inventor DWG's as well?
Hi Sam. We are busy with the DWG compatibility so watch this space as it should be done shortly.
When using it on a assembly of about 30 parts, it takes ages gathering all the parts. And then it's still missing some referencing IDW, while they are on my harddrive. I'm using Vault.
Hi Dries, Thanks for the feedback. We are in the process of addressing this issue and to make it more logical for users to understand how Drawing Porter is searching for referencing drawing files.
Had trouble getting app to work, contacted customer support and within a day received a response from Pieter and a zip file which I unzipped and installed. App works Great now!! We batch print alot of assembly and detail drawings for the shop and this app drastically cuts the search time involved. With the export feature, I can save those drawing lists for later printing AND IT'S FREE!! Did I mention...IT"S FREE!!
